JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria: Age Criteria, No. of Attempts

For appearing in JEE Advanced, every candidate has to meet with following eligibility criteria. Only after satisfying the below-provided criteria, candidates will become eligible for appearing in the entrance test. I would like to inform to all JEE Advanced aspirants that the registration process is supposed to be commenced from September 2022. When you start applying for the exam, you need to confirm that you are eligible according to criteria mentioned below.

Eligibility Criteria for Indian Nationals Including PIO/OCI

First Criterion: Performance of Candidates in JEE Main

Candidates should be among 2,20,000 (including all categories) by acquiring positive marks in JEE Main Paper 1. The percentages specified for various categories are as follows:

  • For OBC-NCL: 27%
  • For SC: 15%
  • For ST: 7.5%
  • Remaining 50.5% is open to all.

Among each of the four categories, there will be 3% horizontal reservation for all PwD (including Dyslexic) category candidates.

Second Criterion: Age Criteria

The date of birth of candidates should fall on or after 1st October 1996. If you belong to SC/ST/PwD category then you can get relaxation of 5 years which means candidates of these categories should be born on or after October 1, 1991.

Third Criterion: Attempts related criteria

Candidates can appear for the exam maximum two times in consecutive years. Candidates who were appeared for JEE Advanced 2021 for the first time are also allowed to apply.

Fourth Criterion: Appearing in Class 12th or its Equivalent Exam

Candidates should have appeared class 12th or its equivalent exam either in the year 2020 or 2021. However, candidates, whose results for the academic session 2022-2023 were announced after June, are also permitted to apply.

Fifth Criterion: Earlier Admission at IITs

If a candidate has admitted at IITs previously or accepted the IIT sear by reporting at a reporting centre earlier or whose admission stands cancelled are not permitted to get admission in the ongoing session.
