DU Admission Procedure 2021 (Merit Based)

The University of Delhi offers admissions into its various courses on the basis of merit. For such courses, no entrance exams will be conducted and the admissions will be granted on the basis of candidate’s performance in the qualifying exam. All the candidates who register themselves successfully before the last date will be considered for the merit based admissions. Different cut-off lists will be released by the participating colleges and DU Admission Procedure 2021 will be carried out according to this list. Important Highlights

  • Candidates for admissions on merit basis must register themselves on the DU website.
  • For providing admissions, the rank of the candidate as well as the choice provided by them at the time of registration/ counseling will be taken into consideration.

Detailed DU Admission 2021 Process

  • The authorities will release a cut-off list of the candidates selected for the admission.
  • The candidates can check the cut-off for different courses on the centralized web portal and the respective college websites.
  • Those who meet the requisite cut-off should login to the UG admission portal using their registration account and select college/ programme where they wish to take admission.
  • Applicant should then take a print out of the admission/ registration form and along with the list of documents/ certificates proceed to the respective college.
  • Original documents of the candidates will be verified and submitted by the college to avoid multiple applications.
  • After the complete verification process is over, the candidates will be granted final admissions.
  • After approval of admission, the applicants will have to log on to the UG admission portal and make online admission fee payment.

Admission procedure for SOL and NCWEB

The applicants who wish to be considered for admission in Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) and/ or School of Open Learning (SOL) can provide their choice for the same during online registration. No separate registration with SOL/ NCWEB will be required. However, all other process of admission will be carried out by the SOL and NCWEB.

Important Documents for Admission

The applicants shall be required to produce the following documents in original with two sets of self-attested photocopies at the time of admission. The originals certificates are to be submitted by the college at the time of admission. However, the documents will be returned by the colleges the in case the student withdraws/ cancels the admission or wishes to appear in counselling of any other university/ institute.

  • Class X Board Examination Certificate
  • Class X Mark Sheet
  • Class XII Mark Sheet
  • Class XII Provisional Certificate/ Original Certificate
  • Recent Character Certificate
  • SC/ ST/ PwD/ CW/ KM Certificate issued in the name of the applicant by the competent authority
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Certificate issued in the name of the applicant by the competent authority. The caste must be included in the central list issued by the http://ncbc.nic.in
  • Transfer Certificate from school/ college as well as Migration Certificate from Board/ University is required from those students who have passed senior secondary exam from outside Delhi
  • At least two passport size self-attested photographs

Cancellation of Admission

  • In case an admitted student wishes to withdraw or cancel the admission in any programme/ college, she/ he may cancel her/ his admission in online mode.
  • Certain amount of cancellation fee will be charged as per the University Cancellation Policy.
  • After that, the candidates should recollect her/ his submitted original documents from the allotted college.
  • Once the documents are collected, the applicant can proceed to take admission in another programme/ college.
  • Admission fee will be adjusted automatically and the applicant will need to pay only the balance, in case the fee in the new college/ programme is more than the previous one.
  • In case the fee in the new college/ programme is less, the balance would be refunded to the account from which fee was originally submitted.
  • Refund will be granted as per the rules of the College/ University after the whole admission process is over.

Reservation Policy

  • 5% will be reserved for SC/ST category applicants.
  • 27% will be reserved for OBC category candidates.
  • 5% seats will be reserved as supernumerary seats in each institute for sports and extracurricular activities.
  • 5% seats will be reserved as supernumerary seats in each institute for Kashmiri migrants.
  • 3% seats will be reserved as supernumerary seats for persons with disability.

Note: The authority will declare separate cutoffs for all categories of applicants including General/ OBC/ PwD/ SC/ ST/ NCWEB/ Kashmiri migrants.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will the applicants be given admission on a first come first serve policy?

Admissions will be given on the basis of merit of the candidates and not on the first come first serve basis.

Can I change my subject during the programme of study or after completing first year?

You can change your subject only before the last date of admission provided you have applied for that programme in your online registration form, meet the requisite cut-off and provided seats are available.

Is a candidate required to be present in-person on the day of admission?

Yes, it is mandatory for the applicant to be present on the day of admission along with the desired documents.

Can I take admission in two different programmes or same programme in different colleges?

No, and in the case you take admission at two places, your admission will be cancelled from both the colleges/programmes.

I have completed my class 12th from NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling). Can I get admission in regular college?

Yes, you can get admission in regular college in a particular programme/ course provided you have applied in that programme/ course and meet the required criteria.

Will there be any disadvantage for gap year students?

No, there is no disadvantage to gap year students and they will be treated at par with regular students.
