AFCAT 2021: Notification(Out), Apply from 1st June, Exam Date

Selection of candidates for flying branch and ground duties in Indian Air Force will be done on the basis of online exam, AFCAT 2021. The exam, conducted in online mode, will be followed by an AFSB test or interview. Final selection will be offered to the candidates on the basis of combined performance in test and interview. The exam will be held twice a year- in February and August and the application for AFCAT 2 2021 is releasing on 1st June 2021.  Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications in online mode.

AFCAT 2021 Main Highlights

  • LLB qualified and integrated/ dual degree candidates may get an opportunity to be employed on legal duties of the IAF.
  • Candidates whose addresses are changed after submission of application should notify the changed address immediately after the declaration of online exam result.
  • 10% of the available vacancies will be reserved for the NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ certificate holders in Ground Duty (Technical and Non-technical) Branches.
  • Traveling allowance will be provided to the candidates reporting first time for the AFSB test as per their regulations.
  • Requests for postponing interview may be considered but only under genuine circumstances and that too if it is administratively convenient.

Eligibility Criteria

The details of the AFCAT 2021 eligibility criteria are provided below:

Nationality: The candidates of Indian nationality are eligible to apply.

Age limit:

  • For Flying Branch through AFCAT and NCC Special Entry: The age of the candidates should be 20 to 24 years as on 1st January 2022. Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) will be relaxed upto 26 years
  • For Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch: The age of the candidates should be 20 to 26 years as on 1st January 2022.

Marital status:

  • Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of course.
  • Widows/ widowers and divorcees below 25 years of age are not eligible.

Qualification:

Flying Branch: Candidates should have cleared their class 12th exam with a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics and Physics individually and should have completed their graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks. Candidates who have cleared Section A & B exam of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with a minimum of 60% marks are also eligible.

Ground Duty (Technical) Branch:

  • Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics): Those who have passed their class 12th exam with at least 60% marks in Mathematics and Physics individually and have done graduation/ integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership exam of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers with at least 60% marks can apply.
  • Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical): A pass in class 12th exam with at least 60% marks in Mathematics and Physics individually and graduation/ integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India is required.

Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branches:

  • Administration & Logistics: Graduate degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with a minimum of 60% marks is required.
  • Accounts:Com degree with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent is required.

NCC Special Entry (Flying Branch): NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ certificate acquired on or after 01 Jan 19 is mandatory. Candidates should have cleared their class 12th exam with a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics and Physics individually and should have completed their graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks. Candidates who have cleared Section A & B exam of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with a minimum of 60% marks can also apply.

Physical and Medical Standards:

  • Candidates must be physically fit according to the prescribed physical standards.
  • Medical examination will be conducted by the different authorized boards and only those candidates qualifying this exam will be considered as eligible.

Note:

  • Candidates in the final year of their graduation degree are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have failed the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS)/ Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) in an earlier attempt or a Flight Cadet suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy will not be eligible for Flying Branch.

AFCAT 2021 Application Form

The application form for AFCAT 2021 will be released in online mode. Interested candidates can fill their application by visiting the official website of Indian Air Force careerindianairforce.cdac.in or afcat.cdac.in.

  • First step towards the application process will be candidates’ registration to generate login id and password.
  • To fill the registration form, the candidates will have to provide details such as name, date of birth, email address, phone number, etc.
  • After successful registration, id and password will be received that will be used for further login for filling the application form.
  • The application form will require the following details related to the candidates- personal details, qualification details, course preference, communication details, and exam city selection.
  • Scanned copies of photograph, signature and thumb impression of the candidates should also be uploaded in the application form.
  • Once all the details are entered successfully, the candidates can make form submission with the required application fee.

Application fee

  • The application fee for AFCAT will be Rs. 250/- and will be non-refundable.
  • Candidates can make payment of the application fee online using credit card/ debit card/ net banking.

AFCAT Exam Pattern 2021

The overview of AFCAT exam pattern is given below:

For AFCAT 2021:

  • Duration of exam: 2 hours
  • Number of questions: 100
  • Total marks: 300
  • Marking scheme: 3 marks will be awarded for every correct attempt and 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer

For EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test) 2021 (for candidates with one of the choices as technical branch):

  • Duration of exam: 45 minutes
  • Number of questions: 50
  • Total marks: 150
  • Marking scheme: 3 marks will be given for each correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer

  • English: Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Filling in of correct word, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary, Idioms and Phrases
  • General Awareness: History, Geography, Civics, Politics, Current Affairs, Environment, Basic Science, Defence, Art, Culture, Sports, etc
  • Numerical Ability: Decimal Fraction, Time and Work, Average, Profit & Loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple Interest, Time & Distance, etc

Admit Card

  • The admit card for AFCAT will be available for download on the official website afcat.cdac.in or careerindianairforce.cdac.in.
  • Admit card will also be made available on the registered email id of the candidates.
  • Candidates who face any difficulty in downloading their admit card must contact AFCAT Query cell immediately.
  • While reporting for the exam, the candidates must carry the admit card along with a valid identity proof.
  • Facility to download the admit card will only be available before the conduction of exam.
  • The candidates are suggested to preserve their admit card till the complete process of selection is over.

AFCAT 2021 Result & Interview

  • The AFCAT 2021 result will be announced on the official website and the qualified candidates will be allowed to take part in interview round.
  • A list of the shortlisted candidates will be prepared and such candidates will be called at one of the Air Force Selection Boards.
  • To generate the call letter for interview, the candidates will have to choose AFSB date and venue by visiting the official website.
  • Candidates reporting for the interview should carry all the important documents with them for verification.
  • On the basis of their performance in the online test and AFSB test (interview), a final merit list of the candidates will be drawn for selection.

Important Documents

The following documents in original and two sets of photocopies must be carried for verification during AFSB test:

  • AFCAT Admit Card
  • Marks Sheet & Certificate of class 10
  • Marks Sheet & Certificate of class 12
  • Original/ Provisional Graduation Degree/ Post Graduation Degree Certificates and Mark Sheet of each year/ semester
  • For final year students, a Certificate from the College Principal, mentioning college name, university name, discipline, aggregate percentage and likely date of declaration of final result, annotated with proper stamp and seal of the institution
  • NCC Certificate (if applicable)
  • NOC from employers for candidates working in Central/ State Govt. or Public Sector Undertakings
  • Valid Commercial Pilots’ License, issued by DGCA (if applicable)
  • Inbound Railway/ Bus Tickets
  • 20 copies of recent passport size color photographs
