UPPSC Judicial Service Civil Judge Examination scheme & Syllabus

The UP PSCJ (junior division) exam will include three stages such as Preliminary Examination (Objective & Multiple Choice Type), Main Examination (Written Conventional Type) and Viva-voce (Personality Test). At first, candidates have to appear in the preliminary examination which probably going to be held in the month of October. Candidates who qualify the first stage will be eligible to appear in the second stage i.e. mains examination. It is expected that the UP PSCJ (junior division) mains exam will be organized in the month of December. After qualifying the mains examination, the candidate will be called for an interview round. The UPPSCJ appointment letter will be given to only those candidates who qualify all these selection rounds successfully. Exam pattern and syllabus for UP PSCJ  Preliminary Examination

The preliminary examination will consist of two papers i.e. paper -1 (general awareness) and paper 2 (law). Both papers are objective type in nature. The time duration of each question paper will be 2 hours. Details of syllabus and topics covered in the preliminary exam are provided below:

Syllabus for preliminary examination

Paper 1 (General Knowledge)

In this paper, the questions will be asked from the topics relating to History of India and Indian Culture, Indian Polity, India and the world, Geography of India, Current National Issues and topics of Social relevance, International Affairs and Institutions, Indian Economy, development in the field of Science and Technology, Communications and Space.

Paper-II (Law)

In this paper, the questions will be asked from day to day happenings around India and the world, mainly in Legal spheres, Acts and Laws. The major topics covered in law paper are:

  • International Organizations
  • Jurisprudence
  • Current International Affairs
  • Transfer of Property Act
  • Indian Constitution
  • Indian Evidence Act
  • Civil Procedure Code
  • Indian Penal Code
  • Law of Contract
  • Criminal Procedure Code

Exam pattern and syllabus for UP PSCJ  Mains Examination

The mains exam of UP PSCJ  will be comprised of 5 question papers i.e. General Knowledge, language, substantive law, Procedure and Evidence, and “Penal, Revenue, and Local” Laws. All the papers will be of descriptive nature. Each paper will contain a maximum of 200 marks.

Syllabus details

Paper- 1 General Knowledge

The General Knowledge paper will comprise of questions based on topics relating to History of India and Indian Culture, International Affairs and Institutions, Indian Economy, Indian Polity, Current National Issues and topics of Social relevance, Geography of India, India and the World, development in the field of Science and Technology, Communications and Space.

Paper 2 (language)

This paper may include questions from the following topics:

  • Essay to be written in English
  • English Precise writing
  • Translation of Passage from English to Hindi
  • Translation of passage from Hindi to English

Paper 3 (Law – I: Substantive Law)

The questions asked in this paper may cover the fields like the law of Partnership, law of contracts, the law concerning easements and torts, the principal of Equity with special reference to the Law of trust and specific relief, the Law relating to transfer of property including the principles of equity, Hindu Law and Mohammedan Law, and the Constitutional Law.

Paper No. 4 Law-II (Procedure and Evidence)

In this paper questions will be asked in the areas of the law of evidence, the Criminal Procedure Code and Code of Civil Procedure, including the principles of pleading. Moreover, the questions paper will narrate mainly to practical matters, for example, the methods of dealing with the evidence of witnesses, the framing of charges and issues, and the writing of judgment and the conduct of cases in general but will not be limited to them.

Paper 5 Law-III (Penal, Revenue, and Local Laws)

The questions asked in this paper may be restricted to the field covered by-Indian Penal Code, Urban Buildings (Regulation of Letting, Rent and Eviction) Act, 1972, the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land reforms Act 1951, Uttar Pradesh Municipalities Act, U.P. Consolidation of Holdings Act, 1953, U.P. Panchayat Raj Act, Uttar Pradesh Urban (Planning and Development) Act 1973, together with rules framed under the aforesaid Acts.

UPPSC Judicial Service Civil Judge Interview round

Candidates who cleared both Preliminary and mains examinations will have to further appeared in the interview round. The personal interview will be of 100 marks. The appropriateness of candidates for recruitment in the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service will be analyzed with reference to his /her merit giving due considering his/her ability, personality, character, and physique. Candidate’s marks scored in the interview round will be added to the Marks scored in the written entrance tests and the candidate merit will depend on the aggregate of both.
