NPSC Syllabus 2023: The Nagaland Public Service Commission is the authority responsible for conducting the NPSC civil services examination. The difficulty level of this exam is very high and its syllabus is quite vast. Therefore, those candidates who want to clear this exam will have to prepare rigorously. To start the preparation, the aspirants must familiarize themselves with the NPSC syllabus 2023. Please note that syllabus are different for the preliminary and main exams. Aspiring candidates can find the complete syllabus for both pre and main exam in this article.

There are three stages in the NPSC exams as given here. The syllabus of all these stages is mentioned below in this post.

  • Preliminary Examination

NPSC Exam Syllabus 2023

The syllabus of all three stages is as follows:

NPSC Preliminary Examination 2023 (Marks: 200, Duration: 3 Hours)

The subject-wise syllabus of the preliminary exam is given below. Please note that all of these subjects have equal importance and you should check the topics very carefully without skipping any subject.

  • General Science: General understanding and appreciation of science, including matters of everyday observation and experience as expected from a well-education person who hasn’t studied any particular discipline of science. Questions will be asked from the topics such as basic numeric (numbers and their relationships, orders of magnitude. etc.), Data interpretation (graphs, charts, tables, data sufficiency, etc.)
  • History: Complete understanding and knowledge of History in its economic, social, political aspects, cultural and social heritage of India, emphasizing unity in diversity.
  • Nagaland: Social, cultural and heritage of Nagaland’s people
  • Geography: Geography of India including the physical, social, economic, geography and on the main features of Indian agricultural and natural resources.
  • Indian Polity and Economy: India’s political, Local Bodies, Rural and Community Development Executive, Judicial System, and Economic Planning in India.
  • Indian National Movement: Nature and character of the nineteenth century resurgence, growth of nationalism and attainment of independence.
  • General Mental Ability Test: Analysis of classified data, logical and behavioral reasoning, analogies, basic arithmetic, numerical ability and basic concept of computers.
  • Current events: Latest news and development on all the fields mentioned above including environmental awareness, science and technology.

Main Exam Syllabus

The main exam will include the following three papers. Syllabi of all three papers are as follows.

General Essay, Comprehension & Grammar (Marks: 200, Duration: 3 Hours)

  • Two general essay questions from the following topics. (50×2 = 100 Marks)
    • Crisis management, Social problems, Analysis and solutions.
    • Current events related to the state of Nagaland.
    • Current events of national and international importance.
  • Comprehension (80 Marks)
  • Grammar (20 Marks)

General Studies Paper – I (Marks: 200, Duration: 3 Hours)

  • Modern history of India and Indian culture: Broad history of India from about the middle of the 19th century (advent of European invasion) and would include questions on Gandhi and Nehru.
  • Current events of national and international importance
  • Statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams: exercises to determine the candidate’s ability to draw common-sense conclusions from information to be presented in the form of statistics, graphs and diagram and to point out deficiencies, limitations therein.
  • Basic and everyday science: matters of everyday observation and experiences as expected from a well-educated modern man.
  • Nagaland in all aspects: This section will include questions on General information related to Nagaland.

General Studies Paper – II (Marks: 200, Duration: 3 Hours) (Descriptive Exam)

  • Indian polity and Public Administration: Constitution, administration and Political system in India.
  • Indian economy and geography: Planning, physical, economic and social geography of India
  • Social problems and sensitive issues including environmental problems: This section includes problems like child labour, HIV/AIDS, gender bias, minorities, SC/ST, illiteracy, poverty, employment etc. Questions will also be put on global issues such as environmental problems, etc.
  • Nagaland-geography, society, culture and heritage
  • Administration in Nagaland: Topic covered under this section are general administration like organizational structure, local bodies, functions, control, social welfare oriented programmes, etc.

Interview

  • Authorities will conduct the interview to test the overall intelligence and the personality of a candidate
  • Additionally, the examiners will also assess the candidate’s aptitude and attitude relevant to the services opted for, rather than merely focusing on the range of their memory and information.

Other Important information regarding the exam

  • The General Studies Paper-II will be descriptive in nature having questions ranging from 2 marks to 20 marks each.
  • Negative marking will be applicable for all the objective type of questions in both preliminary and main exams. 1/3rd marks will be deducted from every incorrect answer.
  • The syllabus of preliminary exam does not include subject-wise marks. The weightage of a subject can increase or decrease in the pre-examinations.
