The Union Public Service Commission asked the Railway Ministry to organize the SCRA (Special Class Railway Apprentice Examination). Initially the examination was the part of UPSC curriculum.
As per the letter released from, Ashim Khurana, UPSC Secretary to the Board Member of the Railway Board, Pradeep Kumar, it affirmed “The Commission is showing reluctance for the examination and won’t conduct it unless and until complete rationalization turns up from the Railway Ministry for such maintenance”.
The SCRA is the oldest programs in India that encompasses selection of around 30 applicants by UPSC for undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur.
As per the commission, candidates are also selected for Indian Railway Services in Mechanical Engineering through Annual Engineering Services Examination. At the start, the additional secretary in the UPSC had written to Pradeep Kumar for drawing the attention to abolish the SCRA examination that was ought to be held in the month of May.
Ashim Khurana in his letter earlier said “It is important to lure your attention again to the inconsistent effort that is included in the execution of the SCRA Examination held by UPSC, while taking in to consideration the a few number of vacancies recognized and filled up. The exam is conducted to select candidates for five services belonging to Railway Ministry including the IRSME.
While taking a dig in to the matter, UPSC secretary wrote, “It appears that one need a little validation for enduring this practice only after one engineering stream, especially when the recruitment is completed through ESE for IRSME. The commission urged that entire matter would be taken care by the Ministry with a perspective to do away with the requisite of executing the SCRA examination on the annual basis”.
In addition, UPSC also organizes recruitment of engineers for Indian Railway Services in Indian Railways Services in Engineers, Indian Railways Services in Engineers, Indian Railway Services in Electrical Engineering and Indian Railways Services in Stores.
