UP B.Tech admission 2022: Uttar Pradesh – A densely populated state located in the Northern part of India is known for its impeccable education system. It has a long and enriching history of learning. Due to its sheer size, it has 2 IITs – IIT Kanpur and IIT Banaras known for providing top class B.Tech programs. Uttar Pradesh Engineering Entrance Exams 2022

For UP B.Tech Admission 2022, candidates will need to appear for either of the two entrance exams i.e. UPSEE or IIT JEE.

  1. Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE): This exam is conducted annually by Central Admission Board (CAB) for admission into various colleges under Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University. UPSEE is considered as one of the highly competitive engineering entrance exams in the country as every year lakhs of students appear for this exam. Candidates can avail the application form for UPSEE in the last week of January 2022.
  2. Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE Main): JEE Main Exam is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admission into tier-1 engineering institutes of the country such as IITs, NITs and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions across India.

Eligibility Criteria for UP B.Tech admission 2022

For Admission through JEE Main

  • To be eligible for JEE, an applicant must not be older than 25 years as on 1st October 2022. However, Age relaxation of 5 years will be given to the candidates belonging to SC, ST and PWD categories.
  • A candidate must have passed class 12th with Physics, Mathematics and any one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subjects from a recognized board.
  • Diploma holders and candidates appearing in the qualifying exam in 2021 will also be eligible to apply.
  • Aadhaar number will be mandatory for admission.

For Admission through UPSEE

  • Candidate must have passed class 12th or its equivalent with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one of the Chemistry/ Bio-Technology /Biology / Technical Vocational subjects from a recognized board.
  • For Biotechnology discipline in B.Tech, candidates must have passed class 12th or its equivalent with Physics and Mathematics/Biology as compulsory subjects along with any one of the Chemistry/ Bio-Technology /Biology / Technical Vocational subjects from a recognized board.
  • Candidates must have secured 45% (40% for reserved category) aggregate marks in the subjects mentioned above.
  • Engineering Diploma Holders or B.Sc graduates with Mathematics as one of the subjects in class 12th will need to apply under Lateral entry admission in 3rd
  • Candidates appearing in class 12th will also be eligible to apply.
  • For NRI Candidates: NRI students applying for UP B.Tech admission 2022 will need to follow the given criteria to be eligible for UPSEE.

Must have passed class 12th or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from an

Institute located outside India and is considered equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities.


Must have passed either of the following –

High School Certificate Education (GCE) examination with Physics, Chemistry and Higher Mathematics (A) from London / Cambridge or Sri Lanka respectively


Have appeared in SAT II examination with Mathematics level II C, Physics and Chemistry.

UP B.Tech Admission 2022 Selection Procedure

Through UPSEE

  • Candidates will need to score the minimum cutoff marks in the entrance exam in order to be eligible for further counselling and admission process.
  • For the counselling process, candidates will have to register themselves online and fill in their choices of branch and colleges in order of preference.
  • The UPSEE counselling will be organized in many rounds depending on the availability of seats in the colleges.

Through JEE Main

  • Candidates who will clear the JEE will further be shortlisted for JEE Advanced which will enable them to get admission into IIT, NIT or central funded institutes in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Since it’s a national level entrance exam for B.Tech, the competition is fairly high. Therefore only top 150,000 candidates will be shortlisted for JEE Advanced exam.
  • However, Candidates need not worry as there are many engineering colleges in UP which provide admission on the basis of JEE main marks other than UPSEE marks.
