The institute conducts engineering level courses (biotechnology and biochemical engineering), dual degree integrated courses in Biotechnology and biomedical engineering/MBA and M tech courses in biotechnology and Biochemical engineering. All the seat allotments in IIT Roorkee is purely based on merit, there should be a negotiable preference for the students who came from backward casts. For undergraduate course the score of the exam “Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)” is mandatory. Post graduate/ master degree course admission is managed through (All India) level GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam which is conducted by seven Indian Institute of technology and IISc Bangalore on behalf of national co-coordinating board and ministry of human resource development (MHRD) govt; of India.

  1. IIT Guwahati

IIT – Guwahati is the sixth established autonomous institute in India. Department of Bio science and bioengineering was set-up in the year on November 2002. The institute has both the Undergraduate (B. Tech) and post graduate (M. tech and PhD) academic programs. IIT Guwahati has such a good creditability in the development of north-eastern states of India. For various years, the institute offers better and effective education to aspirants. Department of biotechnology has 32 faculty members from different streams and specializations. It also equipped with better lab facilities and good range of reference library collection.   1. National Institute of Technology, Warangal

National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NIT-W) is one of the premier autonomous institutes in India now facilitated as the institute having nationwide presence.   1. Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology

Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology shortly (NSIT) is the autonomous govt-controlled institute which is located in dwaraka. Formerly the institute was called as the institute Delhi Institute of technology, it is affiliated to university of Delhi and it is ranked among top 12 engineering colleges in India.  NSIT’s biotechnology department was started in the year 2004-2005 and it admits students through the Common Entrance Examination (CEE). It offers two level of courses one is B.E biotechnology and second level of course is PhD programs. Admission to this institute is merely decided on the basis of entrance exams like JEE –MAIN (Joint Entrance Examination). 60% weight age mark is mandatory to apply for this course.   1. PSG college of technology – Coimbatore

PSG – well known name in the south in terms of quality education. The institute was established in the year 1951 at Coimbatore, it is now accredited as a Govt aided autonomous institute and is affiliated to Anna University. PSG many times facilitated as best Anna University affiliated institute. Its biotechnology department was started in the year 2000. In its starting time the institute offers only B. Tech programs latter it expand the course range from M Tech To PhD. Better faculty presence and good infrastructure support make this institute unique from other institute in south. For B-tech level programs, is considered the academicals merit score which the students won in their 10+2 level. Minimum 50% percentage is mandatory for applicants. However the candidates who having higher score will give higher score preference. Manipal institute of technology – is an Institute affiliated to Manipal University. For many years the institute is considered as the center of excellence. It was established in Udupi district of Karnataka State. It is the one rare institute in India following standard faculty-student ratio. 8 Vellore Institute of Technology

VIT/Vellore institute of technology is a private university which is headquartered in Vellore District of TamilNadu. It also has one sub campus in Chennai as well. Over many year the institute is accredited the position of best institute in India. Better campus and good infrastructure makes this institute as students preferred institute for many years. +2/intermediate with 50% mark is the minimum eligibility to join the course. Such candidates appear for the university conducted exam namely VITEEE, based on the score of that exam institute calls admission to the right candidates. VITEEE conducts its eligibility test exam in all the major centers in India as well as abroad.   For M tech and Msc bio tech there will be no entrance exams for admission. Candidates will be called on the basis of counseling. It is needed an aggregate of 60% marks in higher education. Also the aggregate of mark which is scored in physics, chemistry and mathematics in higher secondary level is also considered for admission.

  1. National Institute of Technology, Durgapur

Previously the institute was known in the name Regional Engineering college of Durgapur, established under the section 1960. Later it was undertaken by Ministry of Higher education (HRD) under the category autonomous institute. The institute is packed with better infrastructure and effective academic activities that make the institute became popular among learning aspirants. It offers seats to the students based on the entrance exam performance basis. 10% of the total seats in this institute is reserved for the foreign students who are nominated by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India.  National Institute of Technology -Durgapur started its biotechnology courses from 2005, it carters better faculty, excellent training and advanced lab-referral features makes this institute comparatively better as compare to the other institutes. Apart B-tech, biotechnology department also starts Mtech programme in the year 2009. Admission to this institute is purely based on merit basis. For B-tech institute conducting exam decides the admission qualification and for M-Tech student’s eligibility is determined through GATE exam.

  1. Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB)

Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a notable institute situated in the state capital of Kerala, Trivandrum. The institute was started in the 2002 which is inaugurated by former president of India, Dr. Apj Abdul Kalam. This is an autonomous institute which was organized in behalf of Department of Biotechnology of the Govt. of India. Previously it was a quality assurance center which is working under Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. Apart biotechnology the institute also has various departments such as Molecular Medicine, Molecular Reproduction, Molecular Microbiology, Cancer Biology & Neurobiology) and plant genetic engineering. Recently the institute is credited as second best biotechnology institute in India which comes after Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. Selection to this institute is purely based on the entrance exam basis. For the department of Biotechnology it only offers research level programs, the institutes is capable of offering 120 PhD students at a time. Students who are in bio informatics, biotechnology, agriculture, and veterinary science having 60% aggregate is eligible to join this course. Based on the entrance exam results, institute calls the students for walk-in round interview.

    I’m a Biotechnology student gonna complete my UG this year.I wanna to M.S after my UG in INDIA . I have to queries to ask. First What are the universities offerimg M.S in biotechnogy? And Second did all the IIT’s offering the course. If yes what i have to do to join in IIT.?

    • Iit bombay ,iit roorkee and iit indore provide msc biotechnology courses. The selection will be based on iit jam.
      You can also go for jnu cbee which offers biotechnology courses. Besides there are many institutes offering msc in biotechnology having entrance exams conducted by the respective institutes. Best of luck?
