TNEA 2022: Application Form (From 20 June), Eligibility Criteria, Exam Date

Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu is the authority responsible for managing the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA 2022) process. It is a counselling process through which candidates can get admission to UG programmes like Bachelors of Engineering (B.E) and Bachelors of Technology (B.Tech) in various govt. and private engineering colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu. There will not be any entrance exam. Candidates are going to be selected based on their academic performances. The application form for this admission process will release in online mode only. In this post, we are going to provide complete details related to TNEA 2022.

TNEA 2022 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should make sure that they are eligible to participate in the counselling before filling the application form. The eligibility criteria for TNEA 2022 are explained below.


  • The candidate should have passed 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th standard from a school situated in Tamil Nadu.
  • Those who have passed 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th standard from a school situated outside of Tamil Nadu must produce Original Nativity Certificate only in electronic form/digitally signed e-Certificate.
  • Children of Central Government Employees may also apply for admission, irrespective of their native, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past 5 years at the time of submission of application.
  • Children of employees in Public Sector or Government recognized Institutions who at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years may also apply irrespective of their domicile.
  • Sons and daughters of All India service Tamil Nadu cadre officers are eligible to apply.

Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee

    • Candidates who are Sri Lankan Tamil Refugees studied in Tamil Nadu will be considered under open competition. They have to produce the following certificates
      • ID certificate from the Headquarters Tahsildar.
  • Those who have not registered in the refugee camp should produce an original passport, visa, and letter registered with Police Station.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed HSC (Academic: both +1 and +2) or equivalent with a minimum average percentage of 45% in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. 40% for Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim, MBC & DNC, SC/ SCA/ ST. Or
  • Aspirants should pass in HSC (Vocational subject: both +1 and +2) or equivalent with any one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry with a minimum average percentage of 45% (40 % for Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim, MBC & DNC, SC/ SCA/ ST)

Eligibility Criteria for Marine Engineering

The eligibility criteria for Marine Engineering are a bit different from others as given below.

  • Aspirants should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as separate subjects with a minimum of 60% marks in PCM.
  • Applicants also need to have a minimum of 50% in English either at 10th or 12th standard.
  • The age of a candidate should be less than 25 years.
  • The minimum height is 157 cm.
  • Weight of a candidate must be 48 kg or more.
  • Candidates must have normal colour vision.

Women Candidates taking admission in Mining Engineering

  • Female candidates opting for mining engineering should note that as per Mines Act 1952, 46 (1) no woman shall, notwithstanding anything contained in any other law, be employed –
    • In any part of a mine that is below ground.
    • In any part of the mine above ground except between the hours of 6 A.M. and 7 P.M
  • No female candidate shall descend or ascend a shaft in a cage or other means of conveyance unless accompanied by one or more adult males.

TNEA 2022 Application form

The application form for TNEA 2022 has been released online. Those aspirants who want to apply need to access the application form through the official website. Complete details related to the application process are explained below.

  • To begin the application process, candidates have to visit the official website i.e. or
  • On the official website, aspirants need to register by providing some of their basic details like phone number, email address, etc.
  • Next, candidates are required to log in and access the main application form.
  • In the main application form, aspirants have to provide their complete educational, personal, and contact details.
  • The details entered in the application form must be accurate. Otherwise, the application form can get rejected.
  • Along with the details, candidates can give their preference of TFC for Certificates Verification.
  • In addition to this, aspirants are also required to upload scanned images of their passport size photograph, signature.
  • All candidates are also required to pay the necessary registration fee at the time of submitting the application form.
  • It is recommended to take a printout of the application form submitted and future requirements.

Application Fee

The application fee is different for candidates from different categories.

  • General category students: Rs. 500/-
  • SC/ SCA/ ST category candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu: Rs. 250/-
  • For each special reservation category: Rs. 100/- (Additional)

Uploading Copy of Original Certificates Online

The registered candidates must upload scanned images of their following original certificates.

  • 10th Mark Sheet
  • HSC First year (+1) Mark sheet
  • HSC Second year (+2) / Equivalent Mark sheet
  • HSC Hall Ticket
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Permanent Community Certificate for ST, SC, SCA, MBC & DNC, BC and BCM (either Permanent card or electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate)
  • Nativity Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) (if applicable)
  • Income certificate (if applicable)
  • First Graduate Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) and
  • First Graduate Joint Declaration (if applicable)
  • Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee Certificate (if applicable)
  • Candidates who have applied for special reservation
    • Relevant certificates for Son / Daughter of Ex-service men with Parent’s discharge certificate and ID card
    • Differently abled persons should bring Medical Certificate obtained from Medical Board (Consists of 3 Doctors)

Note:  Eminent sports persons should submit all sports achievements certificates with necessary forms.

TNEA 2022 Selection Process and Merit List

  • Once the application form submission process gets over, the university will prepare merit lists based on the marks obtained in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths, Physics and Chemistry which will be reduced to 200 (Maths – 100, Physics – 50 and Chemistry – 50).
  • Based on merit lists, overall and category-wise ranks will be given to candidates.
  • The university will also invite grievances from candidates in case they are not satisfied with the merit list or ranks.
  • In case of grievances, candidates may contact the office of the Secretary, TNEA at Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai 600 025.


  • Those successful candidates who will be shortlisted after the release of merit lists will be allowed to participate in the counselling process.
  • The counselling process will take place online in which candidates have to participate by logging into the TNEA portal using their user ID and password.
  • It is also necessary for candidates to pay an initial deposit of Rs. 5000/- for general category and Rs. 1000/- for SC / SCA / ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu, through online mode of payment in order to participate in the counselling.
  • During counselling, candidates have to add their choice of course and colleges in which they want to appear.
  • The allotment of seats will take place based on the candidate’s rank and order of preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question – 1: I don’t have a nativity certificate of Tamil Nadu but I have passed class 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th from a school in Tamil Nadu. Am I eligible for TNEA 2022?

Answer: Yes, if you have passed class 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th from a school in Tamil Nadu then you are eligible even you don’t have a nativity certificate.

Question – 2: On what basis the admission will provided through TNEA 2022?

Answer: The admission will be provided on the marks obtained by candidates in the qualifying exam in relevant subjects, namely, Maths, Physics and Chemistry which will be reduced to 200 (Maths – 100, Physics – 50 and Chemistry – 50).

Question – 3: Will there be the same application forms for B.Tech and B.Arch?

Answer: No, the application form for B.Arch admission will be released separately by the university.

Question – 4: Who will manage the TNEA 2022 admission process? 

Answer: This admission process is managed by the Directorate of Technical Education Tamil Nadu. Earlier, it used to be managed by Anna University.
