NSD Admission 2021: National School of Drama Admission

The National School of Drama offers the candidates admission into its three year full-time residential diploma course in Dramatic Arts. Candidates interested in pursuing this course to become professionals in the area of acting, designing, direction, etc can apply for the admissions. NSD Admission Eligibility Criteria 2021

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria prescribed below can apply for NSD Admission 2021:

Nationality:

  • Candidates of Indian nationality and those of foreign nationality can apply for NSD admission. Foreign national candidates should route their applications through the Indian Council for Cultural Relation.

Age limit (as on 1st July 2021):

  • The lower and upper age limit for the candidates is set to be 18 years and 30 years (35 years for SC/ ST candidates) respectively.

Educational qualification:

  • The candidates should have completed their graduation degree from a recognized university in order to be eligible.

Physical fitness:

  • In order to be eligible it is mandatory for the candidates to be physically and mentally fit.

Other requirements:

  • The candidate must have participated in at least 6 theatre productions.
  • Applicants must have working knowledge of Hindi/ English.
  • Recommendation from at least one theatre expert along with the documentary proof of the theatre experience will also be required.

Application Form for NSD Admission 2021

Candidates can apply for the NSD admission through either online or offline mode as per their convenience. Detailed application process for both online and offline modes are discussed below.

Online application process:

  • Online application form will be released on the official website of the NSD www.onlineadmission.nsd.gov.in.
  • Providing their basic personal, educational and other details, the candidates can fill the application form.
  • The candidates should also upload copies of important documents listed below in the application form in scanned format.
  • After providing all the details, the application form can be submitted with the application fee of Rs. 50/.
  • Application fee payment for online application can be done via net banking or credit card/ debit card.

Offline application process:

  • Offline application form can be obtained via post by sending a request for the same to the Dean office.
  • The request should be sent at the following address- The Dean Academics, National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi – 110001.
  • Along with the request, a crossed Demand Draft/ Pay Order of Rs. 225/-, payable at Delhi, drawn in favor of Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi should also be sent.
  • After the application is received, the candidates should fill it by providing all the details asked in the form.
  • Duly filled application form should be sent to the NSD Dean office at the address mentioned above.

NSD Admit Card 2021

  • An admit card will be generated for the candidates whose applications are received in time.
  • Only the candidates holding a valid admit card will be allowed for the preliminary test. Separate admit card will be published for final test.
  • Candidates will be able to obtain their admit card by visiting the official website of the NSD.
  • In the admit card, the schedule and venue for appearing in the selection test will be mentioned.
  • Admit card should be kept safe by the candidates till the completion of admission process.

NSD 2021 Selection Process

There is a 2-stage selection process for shortlisting the candidates for admission to National School of Drama. The first stage will be a preliminary test and the second stage will be a final workshop. Check out the details of the NSD selection process below.

Stage 1: Preliminary test

The preliminary test will comprise of the following three tests to assess the aptitude, dramatic capabilities and general knowledge of the candidates.

  1. Written test: This test will assess the critical aptitude of the candidates and their power of expression in English and Hindi.
  2. Practical test: Enactment of one dramatic and one poetry passage will be done in the practical test. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to sing, play instrument, express directorial ideas, etc.
  3. Analytical capacity test: General knowledge of the candidates related to theatre and other performing arts and their idea and the capability to express them will be judged.

Stage 2: Final workshop

  • Candidates who clear all the three rounds of the preliminary test will be invited for final workshop.
  • The workshop will be conducted for 5 days by an expert committee set up for this purpose.
  • For participating in the workshop, the candidates will have to appear at the National School of Drama in person.
  • DA and round trip train fare (3 tier sleeper class) or bus fare from the place of their residence to Delhi by the shortest route will be provided to candidates to attend the workshop.
  • The candidates will also be offered accommodation on the modest sharing basis.
  • Clearing the workshop as well will make the candidates eligible for final admission.

NSD Admission 2021 FAQs

Can I get my preliminary test admit card through post or courier?

No. The admit card will only be released through online mode and can be downloaded from the official NSD website. However, information regarding the date of preliminary test will be sent to the candidates on their registered email.

Do I get any stipend during the duration of my course at the NSD?

The candidates enrolled in NSD will be given a monthly scholarship of Rs. 8000/- p.m. to meet their academic and related expenses.

What if I fail to submit my application form in the given time period?

Late applications will be rejected and no request regarding the same will be entertained from the candidates.

If I am submitting my application online, you I need to send any document of the school?

No. For applications submitted online, there is no need to send any enclosures to the school office. Uploading scanned copies will just be enough.
