Jamila Milia Islamia University is all proud to announce the commencement of first ever-graduation course in North East studies at post-graduate level. The announcement was made public by Minister of Development of North Eastern Region, Jitendra Singh.
Jitendra Singh said “There have always been talks about bringing the North East closer to mainstream India but I personally emphasize on the idea of collaborating the mainstream India closer to North East. The new initiative will be somehow the most promising step in this direction”.
“The entire idea will be completely new and unique for India as this will be for the very first time that some reputed Indian University introduces a official recognized Post Graduation Degree Course in regional studies”, Jitendra added.
The Minister shared that a official Master’s course will begin in the next academic session. Although, an optional paper on North East has already been encompassed at post graduation level from this academic year. One of the prominent reasons for involving NE studies is to boost identity of Jamia Milia Islamia and North Eastern academics at global level.
The Minister turning pensive shared that North East states showcase high literacy rate. States like Mizoram have high literacy rate of 92% which is second in the list after Kerala which is 93%.
Faculty and students of North Eastern are putting shoulders on wheel and making immense contribution in the leading universities and colleges of the NCR and Indian metropolitans. DoNER intends to promote Centers for North East Studies as resource banks for people who are unaware of North East studies and introduce them to extensive culture and richness of the region. Jitendra also added, “Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region will show complete cooperation to the University in making the initiative successful”.
