   4. Overview – Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656, Jama Masjid is situated in the old Delhi area. The old Delhi area was known as Shahjahanabad. Apart from prayers, Jama Masjid was also a site of political significance during the period of British rule. Even today, it is one of the most iconic sites in Delhi. Ustad Khalil was the chief designer of the Mosque. The construction was supervised primarily by Sadullah Khan.

Aurangabad was used to known as Fatehnagar. Aurangzeb changed its name to Aurangabad when he becomes the viceroy of the Deccan. After realizing the importance of this mosque, Aurangzeb extended it by constructing four arches in the front portion in 1692.

This mosque is decorated beautifully with paintings, inlaid stones, carvings, and glazed tiles.

   4. Overview – Located at the centre and highest point of Mathura, Jama Masjid is a famous center of the city. The Jama Masjid was built by Abd-al-Nabi Khan, governor of Mathura during the period of the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Jama Masjid Agra has minarets that are each around 40 m high from the ground. The mosque was commissioned by Abd-al-Nabi Khan in 1960-1961.

   4. Overview – Jama Masjid, Srirangapatna is also known as Masjid-i-Ala. It is located inside the Srirangapatna Fort in Srirangapatna in Mandya District in Karnataka. The mosque was built during the regime of Tipu Sultan. The speciality of this mosque is its two tall minarets. A large number of people gathers in this mosque for prayers. Apart from this, a big madrasa is also operated from this mosque. The Jama Masjid of Srirangapatna has three inscriptions that mention the nine names of Prophet Mohammad.

The construction of the mosque was started by Mohammed Ali Shah in the year 1839 AD. However, after his death, the construction of mosque was completed by his wife Queen Malika Jahan Sahiba. It is believed that Mohammad Ali Shah has an intention to surpass the Jama Masjid at Delhi in size.

The first Jama Masjid in the city was constructed in Itwara by Begum Ruquiya wife of King Azam Humayun in 1529. However, as the population of the city increased, King Adil Shah Farooqi decided to build a bigger mosque. The foundation of the Jama Masjid that you see today was laid in 1590.  The city of Burhanpur is located on the bank of the Tapti River.
