UPSC IES/ISS Exam Pattern 2022

Before applying for the UPSC IES/ISS examination all the candidates need to be aware of the pattern of the examination. The examination pattern for both exams is quite different from each other. With the help of examination scheme, candidates can get a better idea about the structure of paper like the number of questions asked in the exam, total marks, time limit etc. So, it is important for all candidates to get familiar with the UPSC IES/ISS examination pattern and prepare accordingly. Here the exam pattern has been provided for the IES/ISS examination in the sound and simplest way so that candidates can prepare smartly for the examination.

The IES Examination will have two parts of the examination. Part-I will be the written exam consisting 6 question papers as provided below-

  • The first paper will be of General English of 100 marks to be solved within a time frame of 3 hours.
  • The second paper will be of General Studies of 100 marks with the time limit of 3 hours.
  • The third, fourth and fifth question papers will be of General Economics of 200 marks each with a time limit of 3 hours.
  • The sixth and the last question paper of IES Examination will be of Indian Economics of 200 marks and the time limit will be 3 hours.

UPSC IES/ISS Exam Pattern 2022

The ISS Examination will also have 6 question papers and the details of the question papers have been provided below-

  • Paper first will be of General English and having weightage of 100 marks and the time limit will be of 3 hours
  • The second paper will be of General Studies of 100 marks to be solved in 3 hours.
  • Third, fourth, fifth and sixth papers will be of Statistics of 200 marks each with the time limit of 3 hours for every question paper.

Guidelines for the written Examination

  • All the question papers will be of essay (descriptive) type except the first and the second question papers of Statistics.
  • The language of all the question paper will be English only and will be answered in the English language only
  • Candidates need to write the question papers with their hand only and in any situation, they will not be provided to the scribe to write down their question papers.
  • It is the principal right of the commission to decide the qualifying marks for the question papers.
  • Candidates will be allowed to use non-scientific calculator for their mathematical calculations in the examination
  • Candidates are advised to use only the international forms of the numbers in the question papers.

Interview (Viva Voce)

  • After passing the written examination, candidates will be interviewed by a board.
  • The prime reason to take the interview of the candidates is to test their appropriateness for the service which they will be joining
  • Candidates need to have the knowledge of contemporary events and the political, cultural or economic activities happening around him, his state or his nation.
  • The interview is just a normal conversation and candidates don’t need to be afraid or hesitated about it. Be prepared and the rest is all yours.
