UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Before filling the application form, candidates must make sure that they meet the eligibility criteria given below.

Nationality

Candidates with the following nationalities are eligible.

  • A citizen of India
  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan.
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with an intention to permanently settle here.
  • An Indian origin person migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Srilanka or East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia and Zaire or from Vietnam.

Age Limit

For Geologist and Geophysicist and Chemist (Group ‘A)

  • As on 1st January 2023, the age of a candidate should be between 21 years and 32 years.

For Jr. Hydrogeologist (Scientist B) (Group A) in Central Ground water Board, Ministry of Water Resources

  • As on 1st January 2023, the age of candidates should be between 21 years and 35 years.

Relaxation in upper age limit will be given to the candidates of reserved categories as given below.

  • SC/ ST candidates will get a relaxation of 5 years in upper age limit.
  • OBC candidates will get a relaxation of 3 years in upper age limit.
  • The relaxation in upper age limit for the candidates domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989 is 5 years.
  • 5 years in case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs
  • 3 years for Defence Services personnel (disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof
  • 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and Orthopedically handicapped persons.

Educational qualification 

The education qualification depends upon the post for which the candidate is looking to apply as given below.

  • Geologists Gr ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India:  The candidate must have a master’s degree Geological Science or Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource management or Oceanography and  Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Petroleum Exploration or Geochemistry or Geological Technology from a recognized university.
  • Geophysicists Gr ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: The aspirant should have M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) Or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from a recognized university.
  • Chemists Gr ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: Those who are looking to apply for this post should have M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from a recognized university.
  • Junior Hydrogeologists (Scientist-B) Group ‘A’ in Central Ground Water Board: The candidate should have a Master’s Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognized university.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Application Form 2023

The application form for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2023 will be released in online mode only. Those who are looking to apply need to visit the official website i.e. www.upsconline.nic.in.

  • To begin the application process, applicants are required to register by providing some of their basic details including name, roll number, email ID, etc.
  • After registration, unique login credentials will be generated for the candidates.
  • Then, aspirants may log-in and fill the rest of the educational, personal, and contact details.
  • The details entered in the application form must be correct. Otherwise, the application form might get rejected.
  • Apart from the details, candidates have to upload the scanned images of their passport size photograph and signature.
  • Once details are entered, aspirants are required to pay the necessary application fee.
  • It is advised to take a printout of the application form submitted and fee receipt for future references.

Application Fee

The application fees for the candidates of different categories are given below.

  • Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates: Nil (Exempted from the application fee)
  • All other candidates: Rs. 200/-

Mode of payment

  • Candidates can pay online using a credit card, debit card, or internet banking.
  • Alternatively, the fees can also be paid by cash using a bank challan.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist 2023 Admit Card

  • The admit card for all those candidates who will submit the application form before the last date will be made available on the official website of the UPSC.
  • To download the admit card, applicants have to provide their registration details.
  • An admit card consist of important information including date, time, and venue of the examination.
  • No candidate will be allowed to take the without an admit card.
  • Keep the admit card safe even after the examination as it might be required during the later stages of the recruitment process.

The general syllabus for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist exam is given below.

  • General Studies: Indian and World Geography -Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World, History of India and Indian National Movement, Current events of national and international importance, Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc., General Science, General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialisation, Indian Polity and Governance -Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
