UPSC CMS Eligibility Criteria 2022: Age Limit, Educational Qualification

UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination 2022 (UPSC CMS 2022) is a recruitment exam that will be conducted by UPSC for filling vacancies of Medical officers in different departments. If you are looking to appear in this exam, then you should read the UPSC CMS eligibility criteria before filling and submitting the application form.

The maximum age to appear in this exam will be 32 years. However, certain relaxation will be given to the reserved categories. In this article, we will discuss all the UPSC CMS Eligibility Criteria in detail.

UPSC CMS Eligibility Criteria 2022

Nationality

Following Candidates will be eligible to appear in the UPSC CMS 2022 Exam.

  1. A Citizen of India
  2. A subject of Bhutan
  3. A subject of Nepal
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intentions of permanently settling in India
  5. An Indian origin person who came to India with the intentions of permanently settling in India from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia, Zaire or Vietnam.

The candidate belongs to categories mentioned in the point 2, 3, 4 and 5 have to furnish a certificate of eligibility issued by the government of India. However, such candidate will be allowed to appear in the examination without the certificate of eligibility but the appointment will be given only after providing the necessary eligibility certificate.

UPSC CMS Age Limit 2022

  • The age of candidate should be less than 32 years as on 1st August 2022. In other words, the date of birth of candidate should not be earlier than the 2nd August 1990.

The certain relaxations in upper age will be given to the applicants from reserved categories as shown in the table below:

Applicants having Domicile of Jammu and Kashmir (domiciled between the 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1989) Up to 5 Years
Defence Services personnel (Disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released due to these consequences) Up to 5 Years

Ex-servicemen including ECOs/SSCOs and Commissioned officers who have completed at least five years Military Service as on 1st August and have been released on any of the following basis:

(i) on completion of assignment otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency

(ii) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service

(iii) On invalidment

Up to 5 Year
Blind, deaf-mute and orthopedically handicapped persons Up to 10 Years
ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered an initial period of assignment of 5 years of Military Service and whose assignment has been extended beyond 5 years and in whose case the MOD issues a certificate that they can apply for civil employments and that they will be released on 3 month’s notice on selection from the date of receiving the appointment offer Up to 5 Years

Apart from the categories mentioned in the table given above, the relaxation in age will also be given to the ad-hoc Doctors appointed after 1.10.1984 in the Ministry of Railways as per the period of service rendered by them.

The ad-hoc doctors who will claim the relaxation in age limit have to submit their application through the ministry of railways, who will certify that the candidate is eligible for age relaxation as per the Supreme Court’s orders dated 24th September, 1987.

Educational Qualification for UPSC CMS

  • The candidate must have passed the written as well as practical parts of final M.B.B.S Examination.

Note-1: The candidates appearing or already appeared in the final year MBBS Exam can also apply. However, they will be required to furnish a proof of having passed the written as well as practical parts of final MBBS exam to the commission after qualifying the UPSC CMS online exam.

Note -2: In case the candidate is yet to complete the compulsory rotating internship then he/she will be allowed to appear in exam. However, such candidates will be appointed only after the successful completion of compulsory rotating internship.

 Physical and Medical Standards for UPSC CMS Exam

Apart from the age and educational criteria, the applicant should also be medically and physically fit as per the medical/physical standards by the commission
