SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern

Candidates interested in taking the SSC Stenographer exam for the post of grade “C” and “D” should know the SSC stenographer exam pattern 2021. The exam will be conducted in online mode where a candidate will be allotted a computer system to choose the answer to the questions asked on the screen. The duration of the exam will be of two hours. Candidates should carefully select the answer as marking the wrong answer will result in deduction of 1/4th marks. To crack the exam with flying colors, candidates can prepare their exam strategy keeping in mind the exam pattern given in the post as well as the syllabus prescribed for it.

Given below is the SSC Stenographer exam pattern-

  • Exam Mode: The exam will be conducted in online mode (computer based test).
  • Exam Duration: 2 Hours
  • Exam Language: The questions will be asked in English and Hindi (except for Part-III).
  • Type of Questions: There will be objective type questions (Multiple Choice Questions).
  • Marking Scheme: +1 mark will be awarded for correct answer.
  • Negative Marking:25 marks will be deducted for wrong answer.

Note: Visually Handicapped and OH candidates (afflicted by Cerebral Palsy and locomotor disability where their writing extremity affects the slow performance) will get extra 40 minutes to finish the test making their total time to be 2 Hours 40 Minutes.

The SSC Stenographer Exam will be conducted in 2 Phases namely-

Skill Test Qualifying in nature

Skill Test

Only those candidates will be called for the skill test who have qualified the written test. This test will be qualifying in nature and the qualifying standards will vary category –wise. Here candidates will be given a dictation in English or Hindi for 10 minutes at the speed of 100 words per minute for the post of grade “C” and 80 words per minute for grade “D”. The transcription time is given as-

For Stenographer Grade “C” English: 40 Minutes

Hindi: 55 Minutes

For Stenographer Grade “D” English: 50 Minutes

Hindi: 65 Minutes

Note: VH/OH candidates will get 75 Minutes for English Shorthand and 100 Minutes for Hindi Shorthand for Grade “D”. They’ll get 70 Minutes for English Shorthand and 95 Minutes for Hindi Shorthand for Grade “C”.

General Intelligence and Reasoning : Space Visualization, Problem Solving, Analysis, judgment, Discrimination, Analogies, Similarities, Differences, Decision Making, Visual Memory, Arithmetical Number Series Etc, Abstract Ideas And Symbols And Their Relationships, Arithmetical Computations, etc.

General Awareness: Questions will be asked from the current events and matters of everyday importance for e.g. Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc

English Language and Comprehension: Candidates need to brush their knowledge of English and focus on Grammar, antonym, synonym, one-word substitution, fill in the blanks, vocabulary etc.
