SSC Stenographer Eligibility Criteria

Candidates interested in applying for the Stenographer grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts must know the SSC Stenographer eligibility criteria 2021 before proceeding for the application form. The recruitment exam is conducted by the SSC on an annual basis. Candidates will be short listed as per their performance in the exam. It is compulsory for all the aspirants to go through the eligibility criteria laid down by the exam conducting body. Candidates should make sure that they fit the requirement specified by the SSC for the post of Stenographer. Ineligible candidates won’t be allowed to take the exam.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

A candidate should either be a –

  1. Citizen of India, or
  2. Subject of Nepal, or
  3. Subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. A person of Indian origin(PIO) who have migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, East African Countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia, Zaire, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Note: Candidates (other than Indian nationals) must produce the certificate of eligibility from the Government of India to get the offer of appointment.

Age Limit

A candidate age should lie between 18 years and 27 years as on 1st August 2021. Only the date of birth recorded in the matriculation/secondary school examination will be considered by the commission for determining the age eligibility for the exam.

Educational Qualification

According to the SSC Stenographer eligibility criteria 2021, a candidate must have passed class 12th or its equivalent from a recognized board/university.

For Group “B” Posts
Central Govt. Civilian Employees who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of online application General: 5 years

OBC: 8 years

SC/ST: 10 years

For Group “C” Posts
Central Govt. Civilian Employees who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of online application General: up to 40 years of age

OBC: up to 43 years of age

SC/ST: up to 45 years of age

Candidates who had ordinarily been

domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1989

General: 5 years

OBC: 8 years

SC/ST: 10 years

Retrenched census employees of Office of Registrar General of India (years plus length of service rendered by them in connection with census, before retrenchment and weightage of past service.) General: 3 years

OBC: 3+3 years

SC/ST: 3+5 years

For Group “C” Posts only
Widows / Divorced Women / Women judicially separated and who are not remarried General: up to 35 years of age

OBC: up to 38 years of age

SC/ST: up to 40 years of age

Defence Personnel disabled in operation

during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof

General: 5 years

OBC: 8 years

SC/ST: 10 years

Service Clerks in the last year of their colour service in the Armed Forces General: up to 45 years of age

OBC: up to 48 years of age

SC/ST: up to 50 years of age

Note:

  1. Ex-servicemen who have already secured employment under Central Government in Group ‘C’ & ‘D’ posts on regular basis after availing of the benefits of reservation are NOT eligible for fee concession.
  2. The period of “Call up Service” of an Ex-Serviceman in the Armed Forces will also be considered as service rendered in the Armed Forces for purpose of age relaxation, as per rules.
  3. Age relaxation and other benefits are not admissible to sons, daughters and dependents of ex-servicemen.

SSC Stenographer Application form

After going through the SSC Stenographer eligibility criteria 2021, candidates can apply for the exam by visiting the official website of the SSC or the regional websites. The application form will be released by the authority in the 3rd week of June 2021. Multiple applications should be avoided. Candidates first need to register themselves for the exam and then proceed for filling the form. The details in the online application form must be carefully entered as no correction/editing facility will be provided after the form is submitted successfully.

Candidates need to keep a scanned copy of the photograph and signature handy while filling the form. Applicants must pay the application fee of Rs. 100/- (women candidates, candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD and Ex-Servicemen category are exempted from paying the fee) through E-Challan or online mode as per their convenience. Applicants should apply early to avoid last minute hassle.
