SSC CHSL 2019 (Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination) is a national level examination organized by Staff Selection Commission. SSC conducts this examination every year to recruit eligible applicants for various posts of DEO (Data Entry Operator), LDC (Lower Division Clerk), Postal Assistant, Sorting Assistant, Court Clerk etc. The examination will be held in 3 tiers at various centers allotted by the commission. Candidates, who qualify tier I exam will be eligible for Tier II and those who clear both tiers, appear for Tier III, i.e. Skill- based test. Candidates willing to appear in SSC CHSL Exam 2019 must satisfy the necessary eligibility criteria before apply. Check the important SSC CHSL eligibility criteria below:
- A citizen of India
- A subject of Bhutan
- A subject of Nepal
- A Tibetan refugee, who has come to India before 1st January 1962 to become a permanent resident of the country, can also apply for SSC CGL 2019.
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
The applicants belonging to the category (2), (3), (4), and (5) needs to present a certificate of eligibility.
The minimum and maximum limit for the appearing candidates should 18 and 27 years respectively. Relaxation in upper age limit is provided to the different categories as per the following rule:

The applicants should have passed class 12th or equivalent exam from a recognized board/ university.
For data entry operator in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG), a pass in class 12th with Mathematics as a subject is mandatory.
Appearing candidates who will acquire the educational qualification on or before 01.08.2019 can also apply.
SSC CHSL 2019 Application Form: How to apply?
The application form for SSC CHSL 2019 will be available at the official website of SSC. The applicants should go through the official notification carefully before applying for the examination. The applicants should enter the details as required in the application form. The final step of the application process will be payment of application fee.
Procedure to apply online
Candidates can check the step wise instructions to apply for SSC CHSL through online mode below:
Stage 1: Online registration:
At first, visit the official website of the commission and click on Register button available under “New Registration” Section
Now, complete the registration process by providing details like Roll No, Date of Birth, Father’s Name, gender, etc.
On successful registration, a provisional registration id and password will be generated.
Stage 2: Upload Signature and Photograph
Candidates need to upload the scanned files of Signature & Photograph as per the prescribed format i.e. size of image should be more than 4 kb and must not exceed 20 kb. Similarly, the size of Signature file should be more than 1 kb but not over 12 kb. The documents must be uploaded only in JPG format.
Stage 3: Filling up details in the Application form
After uploading the required images, candidates have to fill in the educational details, communication details, and other details in the application form. Candidates are advised to fill the details in the form very carefully.
Stage 4: Payment of application fee
Candidates have to pay the necessary application fee for successful application submission.
The non-refundable application fee for SSC CHSL 2019 will be Rs. 100/-. Women applicants of all categories and candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PH/ Ex-Servicemen category are exempted from payment of the fee.
The application fee can be paid either via debit card/ credit card/ net banking or by Challan at any branch of SBI) mode. Extra time will be provided for submission of Challan, but the Challan must be generated on or before the last date.
After payment of application fee, the candidates should take printout of the application for their own record. There is no need to send this printout to the Commission.
Corrections in Registration Form
The provision for making corrections in the registration form will be provided to the candidates. The corrections can be done in the registration form before proceeding to fill online application form. Candidates will be allowed to make changes in the certain details such as name, mother’s name, father’s name, gender, date of birth, and matriculation roll number. However, the provision to change these details is provided only once.
Other fields can be edited once before every examination but prior to submission of application for the examination.
Request for Scribe:
The orthopedically handicapped candidates (other than a candidate afflicted by Cerebral Palsy) who has a locomotor disability of 40% or more that affects the writing speed of the candidate (such deficiency to be indicated in the medical certificate submitted by the candidate), can avail the assistance of a scribe. The request for the same must be made in the application form.
SSC CHSL Exam Pattern
Follow the details of exam pattern as mentoned below in the post:
Tier I (Computer-based Exam)
There will be 4 sections in the question paper carrying 50 marks each, making the total marks 200. The questions will be of objective-type.
The duration of the examination will be 60 minutes. 20 extra minutes will be given to the VH/ OH (afflicted by Cerebral Palsy and OH with deformity in writing hand) candidates.
The language of the questions paper will be both English & Hindi, except for English Language questions.
There will be a penalty of 1/4th marks for each incorrect answer.

Tier II (Descriptive Paper)
Tier-II Paper will be a descriptive Paper of 100 Marks. The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/ Application of approximately 150-200 words. The paper will have to be written either in Hindi or in English. The duration of the paper would be 1 hour. 20 extra minutes will be given to the VH/ OH (afflicted by Cerebral Palsy and OH with deformity in writing hand) candidates.
Typing test for Lower Division Clerk (LDC)/ JSA and Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant
The applicants need to mention the language of typing at the time of application process.
The examination is qualifying in nature.
The typing speed for the English language should be 35 words per minute whereas for Hindi language it should be 30 words per minute.
The duration of the test will be 10 minutes. VH/ OH (afflicted by Cerebral Palsy) and OH with deformity in writing hand (with 40% disability and above) candidates will be given 30 minutes.
Skill test for Data Entry Operator (DEO)
This test will be scheduled for the applicants who have qualified the written examination.
The duration of this test will be 15 minutes. A printed matter of 2000 to 2200 strokes per key depressions in the English language will be provided to every applicant.
The applicants need to maintain data entry speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on the computer.
The speed will be adjudged based on correct entries made by the applicants.
For post of Data Entry Operator in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG), a speed of not less than 15000 key depressions per hour is required. The duration of the test will be 15 minutes. A printed matter of 3700 to 4000 key-depressions will be provided to every applicant.
VH/ OH (afflicted by Cerebral Palsy) and OH with deformity in writing hand (with 40% disability and above) candidates will be given 35 minutes for the Skill Test.
SSC CHSL 2019 Syllabus
The examination syllabus of SSC CHSL 2019 will cover these sections- General Awareness, English Comprehension, Quantitative Aptitude & General Intelligence & Reasoning. The applicants are advised to prepare well and practice a lot on these topics to score well in the examination. Some of its important topics are listed below:
General Awareness: Topics related general awareness of the environment and its surrounding, everyday science, Knowledge of India and its neighboring countries History, Culture, General Science, Geography and Scientific Research.
General Intelligence: Analogy, Number Classification, Drawing inferences, Figural Classification, Emotional Intelligence, Word Building, Social Intelligence, etc
English Language: Spelling, Fill in the Blanks, Cloze Passage, Comprehension passage, etc
Quantitative Aptitude: Algebra, Basic Mathematics, Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics, Mensuration, Tables, Graphs
SSC CHSL 2019 Admit Card
The admit cards/ admission certificates for SSC CHSL 2019 examination can be downloaded from the official website of the concerned Regional/ Sub-Regional Office of the Commission. The admit cards will be made available approx. 1 week before the exam.
First, the information related to exam center and timing for each candidate will be uploaded on the website 2 weeks before the exam. The candidates who are not able to find their details until one week before the exam should report the problem to the concerned Regional/ Sub Regional Office of the commission with proof of having submitted his/ her application. After this, the admit cards will be released.
The applicants must carry their admit cards to the exam centre along with an ID proof and 3 passport size photographs for affixing it in the Commission’s copy of Admission Certificate in the presence of Invigilator, if required. Without these documents, the applicants will not be allowed to appear for the exam.
The Answer Keys for the written examination will be uploaded on the Commission’s official website. Any representation related to answer keys received within the time limit fixed by the Commission will be scrutinized. The decision of the Commission in this regard will be final. No representation regarding the answer keys will be considered, afterwards.
SSC CHSL Result 2019
The examination result of different tiers will be declared as per the schedule on the official Commission’s website. The candidates clearing the Tier I will have to appear for Tier II exam. Similarly, the successful applicants of both tiers will be called for skill test. The final result will be announced on successful completion of skill test.
The following rules will be applied for solving a tie:
- Total Marks in Tier-I+ Tier-II Examination
- Total marks of Tier-II Examination
- Total marks in Tier-I Examination
- Date of birth, with older candidates placed higher
- Alphabetical order in which first names of the candidates appear
Document Verification and Post Preference
The candidates who qualify all the rounds of SSC CHSL 2019 exam will be invited for document verification process. The applicants will be required to produce the relevant Certificate in Original such as Mark sheets, Provisional Certificate, etc. At the time of document verification, the candidates are required to indicate their preference for Post/ Ministry/ Department. Failing to do so, the candidates will not be considered for selection for any post/ Ministry/ Department. Option selected at the time of document verification will be final and therefore, candidates must choose the options very carefully.
