Eligibility Criteria for Probationary Officer (IBPS)

When any aspirant step forward to apply for any examination, he must make certain about the eligibility to apply and appear in the examination. It is quite necessary for candidates to know about the eligibility conditions of the IBPS PO exam before they apply for that to fulfill all the conditions which are decided by the IBPS.

The probationary officer is one of the most important posts in bank and he has to bear almost all the responsibilities of a bank with his hard work complete liability. And there are some conditions have been issued by IBPS for the candidates as who can apply for the post of Probationary Officer through IBPS.

IBPS has set up some conditions for the candidates which a candidate must have to apply for IBPS PO examination.

Nationality

A candidate must be either a;

  • citizen of India, or
  • subject of Nepal, or
  • subject of Bhutan, or

Note: No person who is not a citizen of India shall, except with the consent of the Central Government signified in writing be appointed or employed under these Rules.

 Provided that nothing contained in these rules shall debar the appointment, enrolment or employment of a subject of Nepal or Bhutan under these Rules.

Sex

Both Male and Female candidates are eligible for appointment to the post of Probationary Officer in various banks.

Age Limit

  • A candidate having age between 20 years to 30 years can apply for the IBPS PO examination. The age relaxation will be given to all the candidates as provided below.

Age Relaxation

The maximum age relaxation will be provided to the candidates

  • up to a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe
  • up to a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates
  • up to a maximum of five years for Civilian Central Government Servants in accordance with the existing instructions of the Central Government. Ex-Servicemen will also be eligible for this relaxation. However the total relaxation claimed on account of Government Service will be limited to five years
  • up to a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989.

Minimum Educational Qualifications

  • A candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree of a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.
  • Candidate must have knowledge of computer as all the banking tasks are performed on the computer. Candidate should have degree/diploma in computer education or they should have computer education as one their subject at high school level.
  • IBPS asks for proficiency in the official language of the state or Union Territory for which candidate wishes to apply for.

Examination Fee

  • Candidates who belong to SC, ST and the candidates who are physically handicapped will be required to pay Rs. 100 as examination fee and Rs. 600 will be taken from all the other candidates as the examination fee.
  • Candidates who will apply for the IBPS PO examination will not be provided the option to submit their examination fee via offline mode viz. pay by cash.
  • Candidates can submit their fee only through the online mode but the good part is that candidates get many options of online payment of the examination fee as credit card, debit card, internet banking, Paytm etc.
