IIST Admission Eligibility Criteria 2023
The candidates must meet the eligibility requirements prescribed below for IIST Admission 2023:
Nationality:
- Only the candidates of Indian nationality are eligible for admission to IIST.

Academic qualification:
For UG courses:
- A pass in class 12th exam with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Language and one more subject with not less than 75% marks(65% marks for SC/ ST candidates) in aggregate of these subjects is required. A valid score in JEE Advanced exam is mandatory.
For PG courses:
- The candidates should hold a BE/ B.Tech/ M.Sc or equivalent degree with at least 60% marks in aggregate (55% marks for SC/ ST/ PD category). A valid score in GATE/ JEST/ UGC NET/ CSIR-NET in relevant discipline is also required.
For PhD courses:
- A ME/ M.Tech degree with a minimum of 65% marks (60% marks for OBC/ EWS category & 55% marks for SC/ ST/ PD category) is required. The candidates should have been enrolled in ME/ M.Tech course on the basis of their GATE score (no minimum cut-off score).
- Those with an M.Sc in Engineering or equivalent from leading foreign Universities with a CGPA of not less than 8/10 or 3.6/4 are eligible even without GATE.
- Candidates holding M.Sc degree in the relevant discipline with at least of 65% marks in aggregate (60% marks for OBC/ EWS category & 55% marks for SC/ ST/ PD category) can apply. The candidates should have been enrolled in M.Sc course on the basis of any National level eligibility test (UGC-CSIR-NET-JRF/ NBHM/ JEST (rank within the first 300)/ GATE and State Government Science and Technology Scheme).
- Applicants with Master’s Degree in Humanities/ Management/ Social Sciences scoring no less than 65% marks (60% marks for OBC/ EWS category & 55% marks for SC/ ST/ PD category) can apply too. The candidates should have been enrolled in master’s course on the basis of any National level eligibility test like UGC-NET-JRF fellowship/ State Government Science and Technology Scheme.
- The candidates who have been offered research fellowships by State Government Science and Technology Scheme/ DST-INSPIRE etc are eligible too given they have already cleared a National level eligibility test, such as a valid UGC-CSIR-NET Lectureship or JEST (rank within first 300) or GATE (minimum score of 500 for General category & 450 for OBC/ EWS category & 350 for SC/ ST/ PD category).
Application Form for IIST Admission 2023
The candidates will be able to submit their IIST admission application form 2023 through online mode. UG Application form can be obtained by visiting the official website of the institute www.iist.ac.in from 18th June 2023 onwards.
- Personal and academic details related to the candidates like name, gender, date of birth, category, qualifying exam passing year, marks obtained, school/ college name etc will be asked in the form.
- Signature and photograph of the candidates in scanned format should also be uploaded into the application form.
- After providing all the details correctly into the application form, the candidates can submit it online.
- Along with the form, the candidates will also be required to submit the prescribed application fee.
- The candidates should take a printout of the duly submitted application form and keep it with them for future correspondence.

IIST 2023 Rank List Preparation
- For UG courses: The rank list of the candidates for undergraduate courses will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the JEE Advanced exam.
- For PG courses: The rank list of the candidates for postgraduate courses will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the GATE exam.
- For PhD courses: The rank list of the candidates for doctoral courses will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the CSIR/ NET-JRF/ JEST/ GATE exam or online screening test, as applicable.

- Candidates whose names appear in the rank list will be considered for the admission to IIST.
- Seats will be allocated to such candidates on the basis of their ranking in the list and choice given at the time of application process.
- Candidates who are allotted seats should the report to the institute to complete all the formalities of admission.
For PG courses:
- Candidates whose names appear in the rank list will be considered for the admission to IIST.
- For M.Tech programmes in the Departments of Chemistry, Earth and Space Sciences, Physics and Avionics the candidates need to clear an interview as well to be considered for admission.
- Seats will be allocated to such candidates on the basis of their ranking in the list and their choice.
- Candidates who are allotted seats should the report to the institute to complete all the formalities of admission.
For PhD courses:
- Candidates whose names appear in the rank list will be considered for the admission to IIST.
- The candidates also candidates need to clear an interview to be considered for admission.

FAQs
Is there any exemption from appearing in the PhD online screening test?
Candidates with a valid CSIR/ NET-JRF or Lectureship post and those with a minimum GATE score of 500 in a Science discipline (450 for OBC/ EWS and 350 for SC/ ST/ PD categories) are exempted from appearing in the online screening test.
What formalities of admission will be carried out when reporting to the institute?
Candidates who report to the institute for admission need to complete formalities like document verification, programme fee submission, etc. Without completing these formalities, the admission of the candidate is not complete.
Do I need to send any document to the institute at the time of application?
No. There is no need to send any kind of document to the institute at the time of application. All the documents will be required at the time of admission only.
