IISER Pune PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria 2022
Students with a master’s degree in Science/ Mathematics or a four-year Bachelor degree with at least 60% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply for PhD admission.
- PhD Programme in Biology- Masters’ degree holders in any branch of science including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biological sciences, Ecology and Environmental sciences, Biodiversity, Psychology or equivalent having cleared National Level Eligibility exam that provides a 5-year PhD fellowship such as CSIR-JRF/ UGC-JRF/ DBT-JRF-A/ ICMR-JRF/ DBT-BINC-JRF/ Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, etc are eligible.
- PhD programme in Chemistry- Candidates with a masters’ degree in any branch of Science: Chemistry/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Biology or equivalent or those with integrated BS-MS degree/ BE/ B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ ME/ M.Tech/ M.Pharma degree can apply. The candidate must also have qualified NET with valid CSIR-JRF or UGC-JRF score.
- PhD programme in Earth & Climate Science- Master’s (or BS-MS) degree in Geology/ Applied Geology/ Geophysics/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Atmosphere science/ Climate Science/ Engineering, or related subjects is required. BE/B.Tech students may also apply. The candidate must also have qualified NET with valid CSIR-JRF or UGC-JRF score.
- PhD Programme in Physics- Applicants should hold Master’s degree in Physics or B.Tech/ B.E in Engineering Physics, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science. The candidate must also have qualified NET with valid CSIR-JRF or UGC-JRF score.
- PhD Programme in Humanities and Social Sciences- Those with a Master’s Degree, in one or more of the subjects which includes Sciences, Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Studies, Economics, English Literature, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Sanskrit, Sociology, the Fine arts, and allied disciplines are eligible. Applicants from Architecture, Engineering/ Technology, and Medicine are eligible after a Bachelor’s degree (minimum four years). The candidate must also have qualified NET with valid CSIR-JRF or UGC-JRF score or CSIR-UGC NET-LS or NBHM/ GATE score.
- PhD Programme in Mathematics- Master’s degree or a four-year Bachelor’s Degree BE, B.Tech, in related branches with NBHM or NET with valid CSIR-JRF/ UGC-JRF in Mathematics or Computer Science and Applications or INSPIRE-PhD fellowship or GATE or PMRF is required.
IISER Pune PhD Admission 2022 Application Form
The IISER Pune PhD application form 2021 will be released in online mode. Candidates can obtain their application form by visiting the official website of the institute www.iiserpune.ac.in. The candidates must carefully fill and submit the online application form on or before the specified date.
- Candidates will be able to fill the application form by providing their personal details such as name, date of birth, gender, category, email address, mobile number, etc.
- Details related to the qualifying exam such as passing year, institute name, marks obtained, etc will also be asked in the application form.
- The candidates need to upload the scanned copies of their photograph and signature into the application form as well.
- Once all the details are entered into the application form, the candidates should check it carefully as any error will make it liable for rejection.
- The duly filled application form filled can then be submitted along with the prescribed application fee.
- After successful submission, the candidates should take a printout of the application form and keep it safe for future reference.

- To complete the process of application, the candidates are required to submit a specified amount of application fee.

IISER Pune PhD 2022 Interview
- After the last date of application submission is over, all applications will be screened and candidates will be selected for interviews.
- Such candidates will be intimated about the details of the interview like schedule, venue, etc by email.
- Candidates are suggested to check the website regularly for any updates regarding the interview round.
- Apart from application scrutiny and performance in qualifying and NET exam (or equivalent), other criteria may be followed by different departments for selecting the candidates for the interview round.
- There will be two rounds of interviews in every field. Only those students, who are shortlisted in the first round, will be interviewed in the second round.
IISER Pune PhD Result 2022
- Upon successful commencement of interview, the authority will evaluate the performance of the candidates who appeared for the interview.
- A list of the candidates who clear the interview round will be prepared and published on the official website of the institute.
- Candidates with names in this list will be communicated about the further admission process via the website only.
- Documents and eligibility will be verified only after which final admission will be granted.
IISER Pune PhD Admission FAQs 2022
Is there any provision for the candidates belonging to reserved categories?
A relaxation of 5% in the minimum qualifying marks is applicable for the candidates belonging to reserved categories. Applicants belonging to SC/ST or PD category must have a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate in their qualifying exam.
How can I get a refund of the application fee after its payment?
Once paid, the application fee will not be refunded under any circumstances. Any request in this regard is not to be made.
Apart from clearing the interview, are there any other criteria for admission?
Yes. In addition to the qualifying degree, the students should have qualified a national examination such as CSIR-UGC NET/ GATE/ JEST/ NBHM/ JGEEBILS, etc depending on their area of research interest.
Does the institute award fellowship to the candidates who are shortlisted for admission?
IISER Pune is one of the PMRF granting institutes offering PMRF Fellowship to meritorious PhD candidates. To apply for PMRF through direct entry, the candidate needs to get selected in the regular PhD programme, and the Institute will recommend selected few candidates for PMRF. The final decision will be taken by the National Level Discipline-Specific Selection Committee.
Can a final year candidate apply for admission?
Candidates in the final year of their master’s degree exam or those awaiting the result of the master’s degree exam or NET (or equivalent) exam are eligible to apply too. Selection of such candidates is subject to clearing the specific exam with required percentage of marks.
