The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a national university which has been established in 1985 to offer various distance learning courses in different disciplines at the UG and PG level. The university is located in New Delhi, India which has been named after the former Prime Minister of India Mrs Indira Gandhi. All operations and activities of IGNOU are regulated and monitored by the central government of India.
The foundation of IGNOU was laid to offer numerous educational programmes through distance and open learning. Any aspirant, who wish to pursue a degree or diploma through the distance learning, can apply for admission through the online mode or through the IGNOU distance learning centres located at different centres all across the nation. The university has been established with an aim to encourage and uphold the ideals of distance education in India.
IGNOU School of Education (SOE)
School of Education (SOE) is assumed to be the first school which was established in the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The SOE was brought into functioning to offer the various educational programmes in several disciplines of academics and education. IGNOU has assigned SOE to offer academic programmes in the field of education at the doctorate, PG and UG level. Candidates can pursue different courses in four disciplines viz., Education, Distance Education, Adult Education, Educational Technology.
The School of Education is engaged in three major educational and academic activities and the first of those are to develop and offer academic programmes to the aspiring candidates. Secondly, SOE is also engaged in the research and documentation activities. Thirdly, the school undertakes the responsibility to prepare the qualified scholars who can spread and extend the educational discourses and knowledge to the next generation.
