Founded in the year 2008 under the aegis of Guru Har Rai Educational Society, Global Institute of Management and Emerging Technologies, (GIMET) Amritsar is a private aided self-financed engineering college. The college is a part of global institutes offering education in various fields such as engineering, management, agriculture, etc. The institute is affiliated to Punjab Technical University (PTU) Jalandhar and approved by AICTE New Delhi.

The college is offering five courses in the bachelors engineering discipline and three courses in a masters engineering discipline. Besides, the GIMET also offers regular undergraduate engineering programme in the field of agriculture and four year B.Sc in Agriculture discipline.

Admissions to Bachelor of Technology courses are provided through following modes:
- Punjab Technical University (in which 85% of seats are filled by students from Punjab through PTU Central Counseling based on JEE Score) organized by All India Engineering Entrance Examination.
- 15% of the seats are filled through students of other states via JEE scores
Admissions to MCA / MBA programmes are made through following ways:
- Punjab Technical University (in which 85% of seats are filled by students from Punjab through PTU Central Counseling on the basis of PMET Score) organized by PTU.
- Rest of the 15% seats is reserved for the students belonging to other states.
