Importance of water; Organization of life; Structure and function of biomolecules: Amino acids, Lipids, Carbohydrates, Nucleic acids and Proteins; Protein structure, folding and function: Hemoglobin, Myoglobin, Lysozyme, Carboxypeptidase, Ribonuclease A, and Chymotrypsin.

Part 2:

Enzyme kinetics including its regulation and inhibition, Vitamins and Coenzymes; Metabolism and bioenergetics; Generation and utilization of ATP; Metabolic, pathways and their regulation: glycolysis, TCA cycle, pentose phosphate pathway,oxidative phosphorylation, gluconeogenesis, glycogen and fatty acid metabolism; Metabolism of Nitrogen containing compounds: nitrogen fixation, amino acids and nucleotides. Photosynthesis: Calvin cycle.

Part 3:

Biochemical separation techniques: ion exchange, size exclusion and affinity chromatography, UV-visible Characterization of bio molecules by electrophoresis and fluorescence spectroscopy and Mass spectrometry.

Part 4:

Biological membranes; Cell structure and organelles; Transport across membranes; Hormones and neurotransmitters; Signal transduction

Part 5:

DNA replication, Biochemical regulation of gene expression; transcription and translation; Recombinant DNA technology and applications: site directed mutagenesis, PCR, and DNA-microarray.

Part 6:

Complement system; Immune system: Active and passive immunity; Antibody structure, Cells of the immune system: T, B and macrophages; T and B cell activation; function and diversity; Major histo compatibility complex; Immunological techniques: Immuno diffusion, immune electrophoresis, T cell receptor; RIA and ELISA.
