GATE Eligibility Criteria 2023: Qualifying Degree, Eligibility for Foreign Candidates

Candidates seeking admission to PG engineering courses through GATE must be aware of the eligibility criteria before applying. GATE score will also be considered by many Government and private organizations for their recruitment process.

GATE exam is conducted by IISc and seven IITs on a rotational basis. Aspirants are advised to read this article to know GATE Eligibility Criteria 2023.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2023

The eligibility criteria for GATE for different qualifying degree are as follows.

B.E /B.Tech / B.Pharma Must have 4 years Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technology after 10+2. (3 years after B.Sc or Diploma in engineering/technology Must have already completed or studying in final year currently
B.Arch Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (5 years course) Must have completed or must be in final year currently
B.Sc (Research)/ BS Must possess a B.Sc Degree ( After diploma or after 10+2) Must have completed or must be in final year currently
M.Sc/ MA/ MCA or equivalent Masters degree in any one of Mathematics/Science/ Statistics/Computer Application or any other equivalent subject Either studying in the final year or already completed.
Int. ME/M.Tech (After Having Integrated Master’s degree in engineering or technology after B.Sc Must have completed or studying in 2nd/3rd/4th year currently
Int. ME/ M.Tech or Dual Degree (after 10+2 or Diploma) Dual Degree program or Integrated Master’s degree in Engineering or Technology (5 years program) Either studying in 4th /5th year or already completed.
Int. M.Sc. / Int. B.S. –M.S. 5 Years integrated BS – MS programme or Integrated MSc Should be in final year or must have already completed
Professional Society Examinations (equivalent to BE/ B.Tech/ B.Arch) B.Arch/ BE/B.Tech  equivalent degree issued by professional societies, recognized by UPSC/MHRD/AICTE Must have completed Section A or equivalent of such professional courses.

GATE Eligibility Criteria for Foreign candidates

In case the candidate is pursing/already completed the qualifying degree from outside of India than he/she must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must have completed/ studying in final year of the 4-year degree program in Engineering or Technology or
  • Must have completed/studying in final year of at least 2 years PG degree programme from a relevant subject in science.

Documents required in support of Eligibility

  • If the candidate has completed the qualifying exam in the year 2023 or earlier then he/she will be required to upload one of the following documents issued by the institute or society
    • Degree Certificate
    • Course Completion Certificate
    • Provisional Certificate
    • Membership Certificate
    • Professional Certificate
  • In case the candidate is expected to clear the qualifying degree exam then he/she must upload the certificate from the head of institute or department in a prescribed format or a scanned copy of Section-A Mark sheet of AMIE.

Note:  The certificate uploaded must have a signature and stamp of the head of the institute or department along with the current date.
