The Indian Maritime University, Chennai that is also nicknamed as IMU, Chennai came into existence in the year 2008. IMU, Chennai is the only university in India that produces engineers in the maritime field. The university has its headquarters set up at Chennai and is in association with 7 campuses that are set up at 7 different places including Chennai. IMU, Chennai is a government institute that offers maritime engineering courses along with training and research programmes in the same field. The 7 training and research centres united along with IMU to outturn the maritime engineers of India.
Foundation:
The foundation of the Indian Maritime University, Chennai was laid down by the Act of Indian Parliament which is also stated as the Indian Maritime University Act which was established on 14 November 2008. Shri. Ashok Vardhan Shetty (IAS) is the vice chancellor of the IMU.
