WBJEE 2019: Notification, Syllabus, Exam Date

WBJEE 2019: West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board is the respective authority which organizes WBJEE every year. The WBJEE 2019 will be conducted for providing admission into various undergraduate courses in the field of Engineering, Pharmacy, and Architecture. It is a state level entrance examination through which eligible students can get admission into various affiliated colleges and universities located in the state of West Bengal.

Interested and eligible candidates, who want to appear for WBJEE 2019, must submit the WBJEE application form 2019 as per the mentioned schedule. In this article, we are providing complete information about WBJEE 2019 in detail including application process, eligibility, exam pattern etc.

WBJEE 2019 Important Dates

Here, we are providing the tentative dates for WBJEE 2019 based on last year exam data. The conducting body hasn’t announced the official exam dates for WBJEE 2019. After, the announcement of official dates, we will update the same on this page. Check all the tentative dates for WBJEE 2019 from the table below:

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the WBJEE 2019, candidates are suggested to check the prescribed eligibility criteria as laid down by the authority in the information booklet carefully. Aspirants, who fulfill the necessary eligibility conditions successfully, can proceed to further application process. The WBJEE 2019 eligibility criteria are furnished below in detail.

Age criteria

Indian nationals who have attained the minimum age of 17 years as on 31st December 2019 can apply. There will be no provision on upper age limit. Candidates whose birth date falls on or after 1st January 2002 are not eligible.

For admissions in Marine Engineering Course, an upper age limit of 25 Years as on 31st December 2019 is imposed.

Qualification criteria

  1. For Technology/Engineering/Architecture programmes:

Interested applicants should have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics, Mathematics along with any of the Biotechnology/Biology/Chemistry/Computer Application/Computer Science as mandatory subjects from a recognized board. They need to pass the qualifying examination scoring at least 45% aggregate marks (40% in case of SC/ST category) in the three subjects combined and a pass in individual. Applicants should have passed English in the 10+2 examination with at least 30% marks. Those, who are appearing in the qualifying examination, can also apply.

  1. For Pharmacy programmes

A pass in 10+2 exam with Physics, Chemistry and any of the Biotechnology/Biology/Mathematics/Computer Application/Computer Science as mandatory subjects from a recognized board. Aggregate marks of 45% (40% in case of SC/ST category) in the three subjects combined and a pass in individual is required. A pass in English in the 10+2 examination with at least 30% marks is also mandatory. Appearing candidates can also apply.

There are certain institute specific eligibility criteria, the detail of which is mentioned below:

University of Calcutta

  • All courses except Jute & Fibre Technology: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (55% for reserved candidates). At least 30% marks in 10+2 English is also important.
  • Jute & Fibre Technology: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (50% for reserved candidates). At least 30% marks in 10+2 English is also important.

Jadavpur University (Faculty of Engineering & Technology):

  • All courses: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (45% for reserved candidates) in aggregate of the three subjects and in Mathematics separately. At least 30% marks in 10+2 English is also important.
  • Additional requirement for Five Year Degree Course in Architecture: The candidates must qualify either in NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) or Paper-II of JEE-Main 2019.

West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences

  • Tech (Dairy Technology): Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with at least 50% mark (40% for reserved candidates) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English taken together.
  • Candidates of other boards passed 10+2 from institutions in West Bengal will be considered provided that he/she is a domicile in West Bengal.

Neotia University

  1. Tech: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry (for other courses)/Computer Science (for Computer Science & Engineering and Robotic Engineering) as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together. At least 50% marks in English is additional requirement for Marine Engineering.

The degree course in Marine Engineering

60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together with individual pass marks and minimum of 50% marks in English as subject in either in ‘10’ standard or in ‘10+2’ standard.

Five Year degree Course in Architecture (except for Jadavpur University)

  • At least 50% marks in aggregate is required unless the candidate has passed an examination at the end of new ‘10+2’ scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject of Examination at the 10+2 level.
  • The candidates must qualify either in NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) or Paper-II of JEE-Main 2019.

WBJEE 2019 Application Form: How to apply?

The authority will release the WBJEE 2019 application form through online mode only. Candidates who want to apply for the WBJEE 2019 would have to visit the official website and fill the form in the prescribed manner. While filling the application form, candidates have to provide personal information regarding Nationality, Religion, Income category, Address, Choice of examination zones, academic detail etc and upload their scanned images of photograph (3 kB to 100 kB) and signature (3 kB to 30 kB) in the JPG/JPEG format. An amount of Rs 500/- (plus other services charge) will be submitted as application fee. The payment can be done via Net Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card or through Allahabad bank e-Challan. When the fee is submitted successfully, the payment status will be automatically updated in the application form. After submitting the application form successfully, the candidate should take the print out of confirmation page and keep it safe for further reference.

Correction in application form:

Any information except name, father’s name, mother’s name and date of birth can be corrected when the correction window opens. In case the candidates receive mail/SMS regarding discrepancy in uploaded photograph and signature, correction must be done immediately (within a day).

Error in fee payment:

If the payment status of the candidates’ application form does not show ‘ok’, the following steps needs to be taken:

  • If the payment is made by e-Challan, contact the bank branch immediately from where the payment was made.
  • If the payment was made by net banking/debit card/credit card, and the transaction failed at EPG, the candidate has to make payment once again. In case the amount is deducted from the account even after failed payment, it will be refunded back to the account.

WBJEE Examination Pattern 2019

It is expected that the conducting board will organize the WBJEE 2019 most likely in the month May 2019. Understanding of examination pattern is important for candidates in order to score good rank in the exam.  Candidates can check the exam pattern for WBJEE 2019 from below:

Question Paper Pattern:

The questions from each subject will be divided into 3 categories. Each category will have a different number of questions. In category I and II, only one option (out of 4) will be correct. In category III, one or more options can be correct.

The candidates appearing for WBJEE 2019 will have the option to appear in Paper I and Paper II combined or simply in Paper II. The candidates appearing in both papers will be eligible for admissions in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy courses in all participating institutes. The candidates appearing in Paper II only will only be eligible for admission in Pharmacy Courses (except in Jadavpur University).

WBJEE Admit Card

Candidates can obtain the WBJEE 2019 admit card through online mode from the official website. Your admit card will comprise all important details related exam such as address of the exam center, date and time of the exam, roll number and other exam related instructions. Without admit card, no candidate will be allowed to appear in the exam center. Candidates are advised to keep their admit card safe till the admission process gets over.

WBJEE 2019 Answer Key

The official answer key of WBJEE 2019 exam will be published through online mode after the successful completion of the examination. The answer key will comprise the right answers for the questions asked in the entrance test. Candidate can also challenge the answer key against the payment of Rs. 500 per question (paid via net banking/debit card/ credit card/ e-Challan) which is non-refundable. The final decision against the challenges will only be made by the board.

WBJEE 2019 Merit List

Based on the papers appeared and marks scored in them, two merit lists will be generated.

General merit rank (GMR):

The candidates who appear for both Paper I and Paper II and secure marks above the cut-off, their names will appear in the general merit rank list. For candidates belonging to reserved categories, their category rank will also be indicated in the list.

Pharmacy merit list (PMR):

The candidates who appear only in Paper II and secure marks above the cut-off, their names will appear in the pharmacy merit rank list. For candidates belonging to reserved categories, their category rank will also be indicated in the list.

Tie-Breaker Rules

For GMR:

  • Less negative marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry taken together
  • More positive marks in Mathematics and Physics taken together
  • More positive marks in Mathematics and Chemistry taken together
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics and Physics taken together
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics and Chemistry taken together
  • More positive marks in Mathematics for only the 2 marks questions
  • More positive marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions
  • More positive marks in Chemistry for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions

For PMR:

  • Less negative marks in Physics & Chemistry
  • More positive marks in Chemistry
  • Less negative marks in Chemistry
  • More positive marks in Chemistry for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Chemistry for only the 2 marks questions
  • More positive marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions

Even after applying all the above-mentioned tie-breakers, there’s still a tie, the candidate older in age will be preferred.

WBJEE 2019 Result

The authority will publish the result in the form of Rank Cards which will include the details like total score, component scores in Paper-I (Mathematics) & paper-II (Physics & Chemistry). The rank card can be viewed and downloaded by the candidates logging in their account. A duplicate rank card will only be available by applying to the board and pay a processing fee of Rs. 500/- by a bank draft in the name of “West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board” payable in Kolkata. Rank card will be provided to all the candidates but only those candidates scoring above than the cut-off marks will be eligible for counseling.

WBJEE Counselling 2019

The shortlisted candidates will be called for the counselling process on the basis of their WBJEE cut-off marks. Candidates will get intimation about counselling/seat allotment through the official website.  During the counselling, candidates have to select the college & courses according to their preferences. The allotment of seat will be made on the basis of candidate’s merit and course preference. All the documents will be verified at the reporting centers allotted at the time of counseling.
