National Entrance Screening Test 2023 or NEST 2023 will be conducted by the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS). This exam is a gateway for admission to the 5-year integrated M.Sc programme. The int. M.Sc degree will be offered basic sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. The admissions will be provided in NISER Bhubaneswar and UM-DAE CEBS.

NEST 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The candidates should read and understand the eligibility criteria for NEST 2023 exam before submitting the application form. The eligibility criteria for the NEST exam are given below:

Age Limit

  • The age of a candidate should be less than 20 years as on 1st August 2023. In other words, the candidate should be born on or after the 1st August 2003.
  • The candidate from SC/ ST/ PwD categories will get the relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit.

Educational Qualification

  • The candidate must have passed Class 12th or equivalent exam with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates)
  • The candidate must have studied any three subjects among Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics in class 11th and 12th.
  • The aspirant must have passed class 12th either in 2019 or 2020.
  • The students who are appearing for the class 12th exam in the year 2023 can also apply.

How to Apply for NEST 2023 exam?

The NEST Application Form 2023 will be available in online mode through the official website i.e. www.nestexam.in.

  • In order to apply for the NEST exam, the candidates need to register themselves on the official portal.
  • During registration, the candidates have to provide a working mobile number and email id.
  • After registration, the candidates need to login and fill all the necessary educational and personal details in the application form.
  • Along with the details, the candidates have to enter their choice of exam center as well.
  • In addition to the details, the aspirants have to upload the scanned copies of their passport size photograph and signature.
  • The uploaded image should be in .jpeg or.jpg format. The size of an image should be less than 80 KB.

Application Fee

The application fee for candidates from different categories will be as follows:

Male candidates from General and OBC categories: Rs. 1200/-

Female, SC, ST and PwD candidates: Rs. 600/-

  • The application fee will be paid in online mode using a credit card, debit card or internet banking.

NEST 2023 Syllabus

The syllabus for NEST 2023 mainly follows the CBSE science curriculum of class 11th and 12th. The section-wise important units for the exam are as follows:

  • General Section: There is no particular syllabus for the general section. The questions will be asked to assess candidate’s basic knowledge of physics, chemistry, astronomy, computer science, Maths and environment.
  • Physics: Law of gravitation, Systems of particles, Mechanics, Units and dimensions, Sound and mechanical waves, Thermal physics, Electricity and magnetism, Capacitance, Electric current etc.
  • Chemistry: Measurements in chemistry, Gaseous and liquid states, Atomic structure and chemical bonding, Thermodynamics – Thermodynamic states, Chemical equilibrium, Chemical kinetics, Electrochemistry etc.
  • Mathematics: Algebra, Logarithms and their properties, Permutations, and combinations, Trigonometry, Analytical geometry, Differential calculus, Integral calculus, Vectors etc.
