JEE Main 2018 Important Notes 

The Central Board of Secondary Education has made certain changes in the pattern of JEE Main last year. Hope the changes will continue in the upcoming session as well. However, if we find any sort of changes in JEE Main 2018 then we’ll update you with the same.

  • The authority will not consider weightage of class 12th marks at the time of finalizing rank.
  • There is no any minimum percentage criteria in class 12th for appearing in the exam, however, for admission to IITs/ IIITs/ NITs and such other CFTIs, candidates have to secure at least 75% marks (65% marks for SC/ST) in class 12th exam, or should be in top 20th percentile in class 12th of their respective boards.
  • Aadhaar card is an essential document for applying and appearing in JEE Main 2018 exam. This provision shall not be applicable for candidates belonging to J&K, Assam & Meghalaya states.
  • Candidates are instructed to apply in online mode only as there is not any printed version of application form available;
  • Please ensure that you are filling the genuine application form through the official website of JEE Main;
  • Please confirm your eligibility before you apply;
  • Candidates, who have submitted their applications along with making payment of fee before the given deadline, are only eligible to download their respective admit card;
  • Aadhaar card has been made essential for candidates willing to apply for JEE Main. If you have not enrolled for the Aadhaar then enroll for the same as soon as possible;
  • Candidates of J&K, Assam & Meghalaya states may enter their ration card number, passport number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number;
  • Candidates are allowed to submit only one application. Submitting multiple applications will lead to rejection.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main Exam 2018

A candidate needs to fulfill the Eligibility Requirements in order to appear in the JEE Main Exam.

Age Criteria (Date of Birth)

Candidates, who were born on or after 01st October 1993 (01st October 1988 for SC/ST/PwD), are eligible to appear in JEE Main exam. Your date of birth mentioned in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will be considered only.

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination

Candidates who have passed class 12th either in 2016 or 2017 or appearing in 2018 are only eligible to apply. Suppose a candidate appeared in class 12th in 2015, didn’t pass in 2015, but pass in 2016, then he/she is not eligible to appear in the exam.

Number of Subjects in the Qualifying Exam

Candidates need to take minimum five subjects in class 12th or qualifying exam to become eligible for appearing in JEE Main. Those have taken four subjects in the qualifying examination are not allowed to apply.

JEE Main 2018: Number of Attempts

The maximum number of attempts for appearing in the exam is 3 only.

Number of Attempt and Age Criteria for the States of Madhya Pradesh and Orissa

Probably, you know that the states of Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha have joined the JEE main system from 2014. Hence the age limit for getting admission into the institutions located in these states will be as per their past practice only. The number of attempts is also applicable as per their past practice.

Eligibility for Admission to IITs, NITs and CFTIs

Candidates, who have scored minimum 75% marks in class 12th (65% for SC/ST) or are in the top 20 percentile in class 12th exam organized by the respective Boards, are eligible to get admission in IITs, NITs & CFTIs, subject to the fulfillment of JEE Main 2018 cutoff.

Reservation of Seats

Reservations norms will be applicable to the below mentioned category of candidates only:

  • Other Backward Classes Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL);
  • Scheduled Castes (SC);
  • Scheduled Tribes (ST);
  • Persons with Disability (PwD)having 40% or more disability;

All candidates have to meet with above said eligibility criteria for JEE Main. Candidates, not meeting the said criteria, are not eligible to apply under any circumstances. While filling the online application form, please keep all your documents in front of your eyes so that there would not be any sort of errors taken place.

JEE Main Application Form 2018

Candidates can apply for JEE main in online mode only as there are no any other modes available. Only one application should be submitted by one candidate, submission of more than one application may cause cancellation of candidature of that particular candidate. Please find below the important information regarding JEE Main application form.

Important Instructions

  • Candidates have to make application for JEE Main 2018 exam via online mode only as there will be no printed version of the application form.
  • Please ensure that you are filling the form from the official website of exam conducting authority.
  • Do not forget to ensure your eligibility before you apply for JEE Main. The authority will not allow you to attend all admission formalities till you meet all eligibility requirements. Therefore, check your eligibility thoroughly and then move to the application process.
  • You can appear in the exam only if you meet all eligibility criteria and have submitted application form along with application fee before the given deadline. The authority is not going to accept any application once the last date is over.
  • Please use your Aadhaar number while filling the application form. It will show your genuineness and now it is must as well. No candidates can fill up the JEE Main application form till they have their respective aadhaar number.

Application Fee

Below, I have described the fee range for both, candidates opting exam centres in India and those who are opting in foreign. Based on your preference, you need to make payment of requisite application fee. Candidates can pay the application fee by using the said methods only.

One can make payment of application fee either by using debit card/credit card or through e-challan at Canara/Syndicate/ICICI/HDFC Bank. In case, you make payment through any other means, rather than prescribed here, is not valid.

How to Make Correction in Application Form?

The admission authority will announce a separate notification for making the correction in JEE Main online application form.

Please keep in your mind that you’ll be able to do editing in the restricted number of particulars in the JEE Main 2018 application form. Provisions for Person with Disability

  • Candidates of PwD category are required to mention the type and percentage of disability at the time of filling the online application form;
  • Candidates having 40% or more disability can only avail the facility of scribe/reader as per the request made by them;
  • Candidates may opt for their own scribe/reader; however, in this case they will have to submit request to the centre superintendent;
  • Candidates of this category can avail the benefit of one hour complementary time;

JEE Main 2018 Exam Centres

JEE Main is conducted in major towns and cities of India as well as abroad. Candidates can find out the list of exam centres from the information brochure. They will have to put the preference of four exam cities in case of pen and paper based examination and one city in case of Computer-based examination.

However, if it is found that the number of candidates appearing in computer-based test is less than 50 in a city on a particular date then such candidates will be allowed to appear in the exam on last date of computer-based examination in the same city.

Please provide your final preferences of exam centres during online application session as it won’t be changed further under any circumstances.

JEE Main Syllabus 2018

JEE Main 2018 syllabus provides you with a quick overview of the topics and chapters from their questions are to be asked in the exam. Syllabuses for both the papers are different from each other.

In paper 1 the authority includes questions from class 11th and 12th syllabus of your respective board.

Paper 2 consists of questions from aptitude test, Mathematics and drawing. Candidates should download the exam syllabus from the official website of the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Admit Card

One, who has successfully submitted his/her application form, he/she can download the admit card in the second week of March 2018. It will be possible to download the admit card by following the official website of exam conducting authority. For downloading the admit card, candidates will have to enter their roll number and class 12th or its equivalent exam board details.

Crucial Information

  • Just after obtaining your admit card please make sure that the information furnished over there including your name, date of birth, paper, gender, test centre, city, state code of eligibility and category are correct and best of your knowledge. In anyway, if you get any sort of errors in your admit card, then you quickly need to make it to the notice of CBSE.
  • The authority will issue admit card to the candidates on provisional basis according to the information filled by them in the application form.
  • Candidates must reach the exam centre at least two and half hours before the beginning of the test in order to complete registration and verification formalities.

JEE Main 2018 Result

After the declaration of result, candidates will be able to find out their All India rank. From the last year, board marks is not considered while calculating the JEE Main merit list. I’m sharing below some of the important details associated to JEE main result:

  • Candidates will be able to check the score and rank of Paper 1 on 31st April 2018. The score shall contain the actual marks obtained by candidate in Paper 1 along with status whether he/she is qualified for JEE Advanced. The rank shall comprise of All India category rank and All India rank;
  • The Central Seat Allocation Board considers only the All India Rank (AIR) for providing admission into NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFIs/Others;
  • The authority will not dispatch score/rank card to candidates through any physical mode. Candidates have to download it through the official website;

If two or more candidates have secured the similar marks then tie will be resolved by following the terms & conditions provided below:

Resolution of Tie While Preparing The Rank list for admission to B.E. /B.Tech. (in institutions except IITs)

  • Candidates, with high marks in Mathematics, will be preferred first;
  • Candidates, with high marks in Physics, will be considered then;
  • Candidates, with higher absolute value of the ratio of positive and negative marks, will be preferred thereafter;
  • If tie has not been resolved by following any of the rules mentioned above then candidates would be provided the similar rank;

Resolution of Tie While Preparing The Rank list for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning. (in institutions except IITs)

  • Candidates, with high marks in Aptitude Test in paper 2, will be preferred first;
  • Candidates, with high marks in Drawing Test in paper 2, will be preferred then;
  • Candidates, with higher absolute value of the ratio of positive and negative marks, will be preferred thereafter;
  • If the tie not resolved then candidates would be provided the similar rank;

JEE Main 2018 Counselling

Candidates need to attend the counselling process according to their rank in the merit list. It is most probable that counselling process will start in the first week of July 2018. Some of the important highlights about the JEE Main counselling process has been provided below:

  • JoSAA/CSAB is the name of respective authorities which conduct a centralized counselling for providing admission IITs/ NITs/IIITs and CFTIs.
  • Candidates would be provided admission based on their All India Rank followed by choices filled by them.
  • It is essential for every successful candidate to appear in the counselling and seat allocation process.

JEE Main Answer Key

It is expecting that the Central Board of Secondary Education will issue answer key and scanned copy of OMR sheet for both the papers in between 24th to 27th April 2018. However, this date is just for reference purpose and you may find a slight variation in the same after the release of its official notification.

JEE Main Cut-Off

CBSE releases JEE Main cutoff every year after completion of the exam. Candidates, who have either scored equal or more than the cutoff marks, can only go ahead for appearing in JEE Advanced.

If your mark is less than the cutoff marks then you will not be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced. However, you may apply for admission based on your JEE Main score.
