JEE Main 2020: Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Application Form

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Joint Entrance Exam Main 2020 (JEE Main 2020). This will be a national level entrance exam to be held with an aim to shortlist the candidates for B.Tech/B.Arch courses in top engineering colleges of India. About 12 lakhs candidates appeared for the JEE Main exam last year and it is expected that more candidates will be appearing for this exam in the year 2020. So, it is obvious that the competition level in JEE Main 2020 exam is going to be very high.

JEE Main 2020 will be conducted twice a year in the month of January and April 2020; however, sitting in both the tests is not essential. Performance of candidates in both the test will be calculated using psychometric methods, standardization techniques and best score will be used for admissions. It is expected that the application form for JEE Main 2020 (JAN 2019 session) will be released in the first week of September 2019 and the mode of application will be online. JEE Main 2020 Exam Pattern

The JEE Main 2020 exam will be consist of following two papers

  1. Paper 1 – To be conducted for B.E/B.Tech courses
  2. Paper 2 – To be conducted for B.Arch/B.Planning courses

Other key details regarding JEE Main 2020 exam

Duration of Exam: The duration of Exam will be 3 Hours.

Marking Scheme: Each Question will carry 4 Marks and there will be a negative marking of -1 mark in case of a wrong answer

Medium of Exam: The questions will be asked in both Hindi and English Language. If the exam center is in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Havali then candidates can also answer in Gujarati language.

The syllabus for the JEE Main 2020 exam is quite wide. However, the subject wise important topics are as follows:

Mathematics: Sets, relations and functions, Matrices and determinants, Mathematical induction, Mathematical reasoning, Permutations and combinations, Integral calculus, Sequences and series, Continuity and differentiability, Three-dimensional geometry, Co-ordinate geometry, Vector algebra, Trigonometry etc.

Physics: Electromagnetic waves, Rotational motion, Gravitation, Properties of solids and liquids, Laws of motion, Oscillations and waves, Kinetic theory of gases, Current electricity, Dual nature of matter and radiation, Electrostatics, Magnetic effects of current and magnetism, Work, energy and power etc.

Chemistry:  Purification and characterization of organic compounds, Organic compounds, Hydrocarbons, Polymers, Classification of elements and periodicity in properties, Block elements (alkali and alkaline earth metals), General principles and processes of isolation of metals, D-block elements and f-block elements, Block elements group 13 to group 18 elements, Equilibrium, Surface chemistry, Redox reactions and electrochemistry, Chemical bonding and molecular structure etc.

Aptitude Test for B.Arch/B. Planning: Awareness of persons, places, Buildings, Material Objects, Texture related to Architecture and build environment, Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, building forms and elements, color texture, harmony and contrast etc.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2020

 It is important that the aspirant must ensure that they are eligible before applying for the JEE Main 2020 exam.

Date of Birth

  • The date of birth of a candidate should fall on or after the 1st October 1995.
  • The candidates from SC, ST and PwD categories will get the relaxation of up to 5 years in the upper age.

Educational Qualification

  • The candidates should have passed class 12th exam in the year 2018 or 2019.
  • The candidates who will appear in the class 12th exam in the year 2020 can also apply.

JEE Main Application Form 2020

The application form for JEE Main 2020 exam will be made available only in online mode through the official website. The candidates have to provide all the necessary educational and personal details in the application form. Please note that it will be mandatory for every candidate to enter Aadhar Number or Aadhar Enrollment number in the application form. In addition to this, the applicant will also need to upload the scanned copies of recent passport size photograph and signature.

The candidates should download the acknowledgment page after submitting the application form and keep it safe for the future reference.

Application Fee

Mode of payment

  • The application fee can be paid via only payment gateways using the credit card, debit card or net banking.
  • The applicant can also pay the application fee by cash using an e-challan at any of the ICICI, Canara and Syndicate Banks.

JEE Main 2020 Admit Card

The admit card for JEE Main 2020 can be downloaded from the official website of the board. Details such as Candidate’s Name, Date of birth, Test center, City, Category etc. will be mentioned on the admit card.  No candidate will be permitted to appear for the exam without a valid admit card. The candidates will also require to carry one photo id proof along with the admit card at the time of examination.

JEE Main Result 2020

It is expected that the score and rank card of the JEE Main 2020 exam will be published in the last week of April 2020. The rank card will be consisting of All India rank and All India Category rank. Please note that the All India Rank (AIR) will be utilized to granting admission to NITs/ CFTIs/ SFIs/ other while the category ranks are for information purposes only.

The authorities will not send the rank card or score card to the candidates. The aspirants have to download the admit card from the official website only.

JEE Main 2020 Counseling

The schedule for JEE Main 2020 counseling or seat allocation process will be updated on the official website i.e. The candidates have to fill the choices of branch and institutes at the time of counselling.

The seats will be allotted after the proper verification of documents. The candidates seeking reservation have to furnish the required certificates in original. If any candidate fails to produce the authentic documents then such candidates will not be considered for admission.
