GATE Counselling- Choice Filling, Counselling Schedule

The counseling for GATE will be held by the separate conducting bodies, COAP and CCMT. The candidates to be considered for counseling in IITs and IISc must register themselves on the COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) as well as on the official website of the institute. The institutes like National Institutes of Technologies, IIITM Gwalior, IIIT Vadodara, University of Rajasthan, University of Hyderabad, etc will conduct the counseling for the GATE qualified candidates through CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan./M.Des.).

Counseling through COAP

The qualified candidates will first have to register themselves on the COAP by providing their GATE Registration Number, Paper Code, Score and Date of Birth. The offers from each institute will be provided on the COAP official website. All the registered candidates will be able to view the offers. Out of all the offers available, the candidates can select maximum of one offer. Three options will be provided to the candidates in each round:

Accept & Freeze: If the candidate got the institute of their choice and do not want to be reconsidered again, they can choose this option.

Retain & Wait: The candidates who are accepting the offer but at the same time want to be reconsidered in the subsequent rounds should select this option.

Reject & Wait: The candidates who did not like the offer and want to wait for subsequent rounds should choose this option.

Those who choose the first two options will have to visit the official website of the chosen institute for subsequent admission procedure.

The candidate would have to visit the offers until they select the Accept & Freeze. Those not willing to accept any offers can select Reject & Quit.

The candidate who do not participate in any offers provided on the COAP will be automatically considered rejected.

After the final acceptance of the institute, the candidate will have to visit the official institute website for further process.

Counseling through CCMT

GATE successful applicants will have to register themselves on the CCMT official website by providing their GATE Registration ID and Password. The registration fee will be Rs. 2,200 (for OC/OB candidates) and Rs. 1,700 (for SC/ST/PwD), which is nonrefundable.

There will be 3 rounds of seat allotment and based on the merit list and the choice made by the candidate, the seat will be allotted to them. During the choice filling, the candidates can add, change, reorder or delete their choices until the last date. The candidates will have to lock their final choice before the specified date. Those who do not lock their choice, their last saved choice will be locked automatically. No changes can be made in the locked choice.

The detail of the allotted seat will be available on the CCMT website and according to that the candidates will have to report to their mentioned reporting centers. During the reporting period, the candidates will be given the 3 choices:

Floating: Those who wish to be considered further rounds of seat allotment across all the participating institutes can select this option.

Sliding: Those who wish to be considered further rounds of seat allotment only within the allotted institute have to select this option.

Freezing: Those who are accepting the offer and do not want to be reconsidered should choose this option.

The candidates who accept the seat will have to pay Seat Acceptance Fee of Rs. 20,000/- (for all categories). Those who have paid the acceptance fee and opt for Freezing/Sliding can confirm the provisional allotment of seat by paying the Seat Confirmation Fee of Rs. 10, 000/- (for all categories). The fee submission can be done via Net Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card, OR through e-Challan at any SBI branch.

The candidates who do not get the seat of their choice in any rounds or were not able to take final admission in the allotted institute can apply in NSR (National Spot Round) as a fresh candidate. This round will be conducted after physical reporting at the allotted institute and second internal sliding by CCMT.

The candidates will again have to fill choices and lock them before the end date and the seat allotment rules will be same as the earlier rounds. The registration fee for NSR is also the same, i.e., Rs. 2,200 (for OC/OB candidates) and Rs. 1,700 (for SC/ST/PwD), and is also nonrefundable.
