CIFNET 2023: Application Form, Eligibility Criteria, Selection Process

Central Institute of Fisheries, Nautical & Engineering Training (CIFNET) will release the admit card of CIFNET Entrance Exam 2023 soon. Through this entrance exam, candidates can get admission to Bachelor of Fisheries Science (BFSc) and Vessel Navigator Course(VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course (MFC) programs.

CIFNET 2023 entrance exam will be held on 5th August 2023 and the result will be announced on 11th August 2023. Check all necessary details related to the exam here in this article.

Available Courses

The candidates can get admission to the following two courses –

Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science)

  • It is a four-year degree programme (8 semesters) with integrated practical and onboard training on ocean-going fishing vessels.
  • Affiliated to CUSAT, Kochi, recognized by UGC and approved by DG Shipping, Mumbai.
  • This course is conducted by CIFNET, Kochi only.
  • You are eligible for CDS after completing this course.

Vessel Navigator Course (VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course (MFC)

  • It is a two-year trade course (4 semesters) with practical training on board fishing vessels out at sea and these courses, introduced by DGCET, New Delhi under Craftsmen Training Scheme of NCVT.
  • The course is conducted at CFNIT Kochi/ Chennai/ Visakhapatnam.
  • Eligible for CDC.

CIFNET 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria are different for Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) and Vessel Navigator Course (VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course (MFC) as explained below.

Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science)

  • Age Limit – As of 1st October 2023, the age of a candidate should be between 17 years to 20 years. (Maximum age for lateral entry is 22 years)
  • Educational Qualification – Aspirants must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks in all subjects of PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) or PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematical). Only pass in PCM or PCB is enough for SC/ ST candidates. Those students who will appear for the class 12th exam in the year 2023 are also eligible.

Vessel Navigator Course (VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course (MFC)

  • Age Limit – As of 1st August 2023, the age of a candidate should be between 15 years to 20 years. SC/ ST candidates will get a relaxation of up to 5 years in the upper age limit.
  • Educational Qualification – Candidates must have passed the 10th class examination with at least 40% marks in Maths and Science. Those who will appear for the class 10th in the year 2023 are also eligible.

CIFNET 2023 Application Form 

The application process for CIFNET 2023 was released in online mode only. Those interested candidates who want to apply need to fill and submit the application form before the last date. The complete process of application form submission is explained in the following steps.

  • First of all, you need to visit the official CIFNET website i.e. cifnet.gov.in.
  • You will get a direct link to the application form on the homepage of the official website.
  • In the main application form, aspirants are required to provide their complete educational, personal, and contact details.
  • All details mentioned in the application form should be accurate. Otherwise, the institute may reject your application form.
  • At the time of filling the application form, candidates also need to upload scanned images of their passport size photograph and signature.
  • The scanned images should be as per the specification mentioned on the official website.
  • It is also necessary for you to pay the application fee in order to apply.
  • Candidates must take a printout of the application form submitted for future requirements.
  • The duly filled application form along with necessary documents like mark sheet (SSLC/ HSC), community certificate if SC/ ST/ OBC (NCL)/ EWS and also the receipt/ UTR number generated for the payment of application fee online must be sent to “The Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-682016″

Application Fee

The application fee for different courses is as follows.

Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science)

  • General/ OBC – Rs. 500/-
  • SC/ ST – Rs. 250/-

Vessel Navigator Course (VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course (MFC)

  • General/ OBC – Rs. 300/-
  • SC/ ST – Rs. 150/-

Mode of payment – The application fee can be paid online using a credit card, debit card, or internet  banking.

CIFNET 2023 Selection Process

  • The selection process is different for both the courses i.e. B.F.Sc (NS) and VNC & MFC courses.
  • There will not be any entrance exam for admission to any of the courses.
  • For B.F.Sc. (NS), candidates will be selected on the basis of 12th standard marks.
  • For VNC & MFC, aspirants will be selected on the basis of 10th standard marks.

Result/ Merit list and Counselling 

  • The result of Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical & Engineering Training (CIFNET) 2023 will release in the form of a merit list.
  • Candidates will be able to check the merit list by visiting the official website.
  • Only those candidates will get their names in the merit list who will be shortlisted for admission.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be invited to take part in the counselling process.
  • During the counselling process, admission will be confirmed after the verification of documents and payment of admission fee.

Stipend

  • Candidates selected for Vessel Navigator Course (VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course (MFC) will get stipends.
  • The Selected candidates will be paid Rs.1500/- per month as stipend.
  • On completion of VNC/MFC, Post Intuitional Training will also be offered with a stipend of Rs. 20500/- pm and onetime Uniform allowance of Rs2500/.

Answer: The number of seats available for different courses is as follows –

Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science)

  • (40+5 ) seats (Gen/Gen-EWS/OBC/SC/ST/ – 38, NRI –1, Foreign National – 1, Lateral Entry System –5.

Vessel Navigator Course (VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course (MFC)

  • VNC -20, MFC-20 at CIFNET Kochi/ Chennai/ Vizag (Gen/Gen-EWS/OBC/SC/ST – 16 seats &State Government Sponsorship – 4 seats at each centre/course preferably from fishermen community)

  1. After completing this ITI course from CIFNET what type of job will get and is there any demand for this course. Old students are complaining there there is no proper guidance from the institute and the institute is not giving apprenticeship in timely. No other companies are selecting these students for apprenticeship….
