About the University

Established in 1961, Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) is one of the largest universities of the country which offers quality education on fisheries and allied sciences. It is one of the oldest universities across the nation based in Mumbai. Central Institute of Fisheries Education was integrated under the Ministry of Agriculture and Government of India and has gained the status of deemed University in 1989.  With a large team of devoted scientists and state-of-art infrastructure facilities, the University is actively associated the knowledge led revolution in order to generate fisheries and aquaculture related sustainable rural livings and to assure food and nutritional sanctuary for all.

Courses and eligibility criteria offered by Central Institute of Fisheries Education

  • Master of Science- two years

Applicants should have qualified their B.F. Sc. under the 10+2+4 pattern with at least of 60% marks or OGPA (overall grade point average) of 6.5 out of 10. With OGPA 3.25 out of 5 or 2.46 out of 4 are also eligible.

55% marks or OGPA of 6.00 out of 10 and 3.00 out of 5.00 or 2.40 out of 4 for candidates from SC/ST categories

Candidate must have completed 19 years of their age on 31st July.

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Science)- two years (2 courses)

Candidates must have done M.F.Sc. (3 years B.Sc. + 3 years P.G/4 years B.F.Sc. + 2 years P.G Pattern /M.Sc. degree provided at CIFE (up to 1995) or D. F. Sc. Offered the applicants holds a degree in Biological Science and has minimum of 2 years of experience in fisheries development work after getting D.F.Sc degree. In the case of funded applicants, those having M.Sc. degree in Fish and Fisheries, and related disciplines with minimum of 2 years experience in Fisheries development work are also eligible to apply.

The minimum age restriction is 22 years for Ph.D till 31st July of admission year.

The minimum necessary qualification for OBC applicants will be same as that for General category applicants.

The required minimum qualification for different categories is 7.5 out of 10 for General and OBC, 7.0 out of 10 for candidates from SC/ST.
