About the institute
Established in the year 1949, Birsa Institute of Technology commonly known as BIT Sindri, is the government engineering college situated in Jharkhand state. Initially, the college was started with the name of the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Patna but later in the year 1950 it was relocated to Sindri and renamed as present name. It has an all-embracing campus of about 400 acres of land close to the eastern bank of river Damodar. BIT Sindri is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University.

The Birsa Institute of Technology is offering about ten courses in the graduate engineering streams; and 5 courses in the postgraduate engineering disciplines. Birsa Institute of Technology Dhanbad Admission Process
- Graduate engineering courses (B.Tech) – 4 years
Selection of candidates to all B.Tech courses will be done through Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (JCECE) organized by JCECE Board constituted by Government of Jharkhand. In case of lateral entry to diploma holders in engineering and technology courses, is made through competitive examination organized separately by the college.
- Postgraduate Engineering courses (M.Tech) – 4 years
Admissions to M.Tech courses are done through written test/interview organized by the college. Applicants with valid GATE score with B.E. /B.Tech or equivalent in related stream with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent C.G.P.A from recognized University/Institute, are eligible to apply in prescribed format. Relaxation will be given to reserved categories as per the state government norms.
- Doctoral (PhD) courses
Admission of eligible candidates to Ph.D (Engineering) courses in various engineering streams and interdisciplinary field is done on the basis of written test/interview organized by the institute.
