AFCAT Exam

The notification has been announced by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for the recruitment of officers in Technical branch, flying branch and Ground duty branch. As per the official notification, Male and Female Indian citizens are eligible to apply for AFCAT. All interested and eligible candidates need to read this article carefully before they move for submitting the application form as here they will find all related information AFCAT which includes its application form, eligibility criteria, important dates, how to apply, selection procedure etc.

The AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) is organized twice in a year i.e. in the month of February and September for selection of officers in the Technical, Ground Duty and Flying branch. Descriptions of various branches are as follows:

  • Technical Branch (Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)
  • Flying Branch (Short Service Commission)
  • Ground Duty Branch (Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria

Check out below all eligibility criteria associated with AFCAT. All candidates need to check out these criteria as without fulfilling the mentioned criteria they won’t be eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria for Technical Branch

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates should have cleared Sections A and B exams of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India along with securing 60% marks or completed four year degree qualification.
  • Age Limit: Candidate’s age should be in between 20 to 26 years as on 01.01.2017 i.e. candidates should be born in between 02.01.1991 to 01.01.1997 including both dates.
  • Minimum height for Male candidates should be 157.5 cms with associated weight whereas for female candidate it should be 152 cms.

Eligibility Criteria for Flying Branch

  • Educational qualification: Candidates should have cleared B.E/B.Tech degree with 60% marks from a recognized university Or, they should have completed bachelor’s degree of three years duration in any discipline with securing at least 60% marks and pass in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level.
  • Age Criteria: Candidate’s age should be in between 20 to 24 years as on 01.01.2017 i.e. candidates should be born in between 02.01.1993 to 01.01.1997 including both dates).
  • Minimum height of candidates should be 162.5 cm with associated weight.
  • Talking about the minimum vision, it should be 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other.

Eligibility Criteria for Ground Duty Branch

  • Educational qualification: Candidates should have completed bachelor’s degree (at least 3 years duration) in any discipline with obtaining at least 60% marks.
  • Candidates who are interested for Administration and Logistics posts they should have completed post graduate degree with securing 50% marks.
  • For accounts posts, candidates should have completed B.Com with securing at least 60% marks or Post graduation degree in CA/ Commerce/ ICWA along with securing at least 50% marks.
  • For education posts, post graduation degree in any discipline is required along with at least 50% marks.
  • Age Criteria: Candidate’s age should be in between 20 to 26 years on 01.01.2017 i.e. candidates should be born in between 02.01.1991 to 01.01.1997 including both dates.
  • Minimum height of candidates should be 157.5 cms along with associated weight. Minimum height for women candidate is 152 cms.

Note:

  • Candidates who have failed earlier in the PABT test will not be eligible for the exam.
  • Final year candidates are eligible to apply but they should have obtained at least 60% marks along with no current backlogs. Further, they will have to submit the provisional or original certificates before starting the training.

How to Apply?

Candidates need to follow the steps elaborated below in order to apply for AFCAT:

  • Open the official website of Indian Air Force i.e. http://careerairforce.nic.in/auth/candidate/index.asp.
  • Find the link for “New Registration” and click the same.
  • Now fill up the instructions as per the field specified in the registration form.
  • Once the registration process gets completed, a user ID and password will be sent to your registered email ID.
  • Now “login for online application” by using the same user ID and password.
  • Now fill up the application form along with requisite details and upload your thumb impression, recent passport size photograph and signature.
  • After completion of filling up process of the application form take a print out for the same.
  • Once the application process gets completed, you’ll receive a registered ID to your mail.

Note: Once the AFCAT application form is submitted by candidates, no further modification will be allowed. So, be careful while filling up your application form.

AFCAT Selection Procedure

For the final selection, candidates will have to go through the following steps:

  • Candidates will have to appear in AFCAT and if you have applied for Technical branch then you need to appear in the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT).
  • Second step contain AFSB interview which includes screening test, Psychological test, Group test and Interview and CPSS and/ or PABT (only for candidates applied for Flying Branch).
